Hi,
You know there are alot of things out there and many are a little pricy. Since you are using a Respironics M Series with Integrated humidifier (you can run it too) you can actually use a regular style 12 Volt battery (most Heated Humidifiers need special added electronics--your lucky). You could go with one of the "CPAP" type all in one battery systems like on CPAP.com for under $300.
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/CPAP. ... Cable.html
BTW this solution will not provide a system that runs both the PAP and heated Humidifier (not enough Amp-hours in the battery). But, it is light weight and can be taken on a plane.
For the cheaper home style solution (and allows for use of the Heated Humidifier and xPAP) you can use a car battery (a high end AMG type) and maintenance battery charger (trickle charger) and marine style battery case-- I put mine together (battery, case and charger) for under $100 easy. You'll also need a 12 volt connector cord and battery connector for the Respironics M Series like the one a CPAP.com
https://www.cpap.com/productpage-bundle ... undle.html
This pushes the total to about $150 but can easily power the unit to run all night. I'm betting on several nights. It's is bulkier and heavier then the special CPAP solutions but, is perfect for home use. You can even use it to quickly jump start a car (if you have jumper cables)
You can save money by using a "standard type" Car battery but the AGM (absorbed glass mat) type batteries are safer (spill proof and can withstand deep discharge better.)
BTW Most of those "all in one" CPAP" battery solutions are under 20 Amp Hours. Great for weight but nowhere near the run time (especially with the Heated Humidifier running)

Yes, EXACTLY like that one! No Radio Shack cheapies!builta wrote:You'll also need a 12 volt connector cord and battery connector for the Respironics M Series like the one a CPAP.com
Any sort of AC charger for the battery will introduce electrical noise into the system. Electronics HATE noise! It makes them smoke...
Two options (#1 is best):
1. Make sure your power cord from the battery to the CPAP is filtered (those big lumps in the wire on the Respironics DC pwr cord).
2. If you must use a straight (unfiltered) DC line, disconnect the CPAP BEFORE charging and disconnect the charger before reconnecting the CPAP. ALWAYS! One "oops" can mean an expensive trip to the DME. (And we DO have memory issues! )

Hi LinkC,
Agree with you. The Respironics cord and car adaptor, that I linked to, comes with a "Car type" 12 Volt "female" Cigarette plug and battery connector. If you use a trickle charger that connects to the battery through the same type of cigarette plug connection (male connector), then you can either be charging/topping off the battery or using it to run the xPAP (as only one thing at a time will fit into the "Female 12 Volt Cigarette" adaptor connected to the battery. this makes it almost "Oops proof." That's what I have.
Added via edit:
Connect the "female" battery connector (the one with the alligator clips) to the battery. Run the female plug outside the battery box. The either connect the charger or the xPAP to it.
Here is a link to battery charger that comes with both the "Female Cigarette" battery connector with clips to attach to the battery and the "Male Cigarette" to battery charger connection plus works with 110V or 220V. I'm sure that you can find similar devices if you go look.

Check this one out at about $140 for a 28 Amp-Hour (600W series) (should runabout 6 hours on a full charge if using xPAP and heated Humidity on M-Series setup and direct DC - no inverter)

Re: Do you use a battery backup? if so what type?
he he Builta I was just looking at that one...so if a 600w unit will run both for about 6 hours....how long will a 400w unit run it...4 hours?
Re: Do you use a battery backup? if so what type?
Hi,volkrt wrote:appreciate the replies all thank you....what exactly is my M series drawing wattage and amp wise?
My Respironics M Series BiPAP auto with Bi Flex and Integrated Heated Humidifier runs on a "Power Brick" that is rated at 12V 4.15 amps. So, to be safe assume 5 amps.
So if I use my unit with the humidifier:
-- 18.5 AMP-Hour Battery running at about 5 amps = 18.5/5 or 3.7 hours run time (or more based on your pressure and Humidity setting)
-- 26.0 AMP-Hour Battery running at about 5 amps = 26/5 or 5.2 hours run time (or more based on your pressure and Humidity setting)
-- 35.0 AMP-Hour Battery running at about 5 amps = 35/5 or 7 hours run time (or more based on your pressure and Humidity setting) (Sweet spot - 12 Volt Golf Cart Battery size)
-- 55.0 AMP-Hour Battery running at about 5 amps = 55/5 or 11 hours run time (or more based on your pressure and Humidity setting) (12 Volt Cheap Automotive Battery size)
Just my thoughts.

Re: Do you use a battery backup? if so what type?
Think that I sort of answered this one in my last post. The 600 watt unit is close to the IDed 26 amp hour battery.volkrt wrote:he he Builta I was just looking at that one...so if a 600w unit will run both for about 6 hours....how long will a 400w unit run it...4 hours?
The 400W is around a 18.5 amp-hour battery.
But, all depends on your pressure and humidity. The higher they are set the closer to this identified limit I think you wound be.
When all is said and done, I think Dreamer is really on to something with the 28 AMP-hour 600W Self contained unit.

Re: Do you use a battery backup? if so what type?
How many hours would this run my S8 Autoset II without the humidifier? I need a battery option that can last almost a week at a time. It doesn't have to be light since I will carry it in my horse trailer with living quarters. My living quarter batteries will be used for providing hot water and some lights and the water pump...I do have a solar panel on my rig that usually recharges my rig batteries enough to keep me in hot water and some lights. My battery for the APAP needs to be in the LQ with me so I would want it to be sealed.builta wrote: Check this one out at about $140 for a 28 Amp-Hour (600W series) (should runabout 6 hours on a full charge if using xPAP and heated Humidity on M-Series setup and direct DC - no inverter)
://www.amazon.com/Duracell-DPP-600HD-Power ... sim_auto_2
So my APAP is going to get it's own battery setup. I think I will need this DC to AC Pure Sine Wave Power Converter for Resmed S8 Machines
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/DC-to- ... or-s8.html
and the optima yellow top battey?
http://www.optimabatteries.com/optima_p ... lowtop.php
Does that sound right? I have been reading the posts on this forum about this esp the ones that restedgal has gathered or written. I will need my battery setup in about 3 weeks so I am going to have to get all of this figured out soon. I usually travel with my horses at least once a month so this isn't going to be a one time thing.
Thanks to anyone who can help me and special thanks to anyone who keeps the info in really really simple terms
