Is there a card that I put my AHI on and carry

Post by bickhart814 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 8:51 am

I was thinking that I would like to carry a card in my Billfold that says that I have OSA and my setting are such as AHI is. I think this would come in handy if I was found unconscious and the medical staff would know that I have Sleep Apnea. A Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher file would be great.

Thanks

You could get a Medic Alert bracelet that says you have apnea and that your Cpap pressure should be set at e.g. 10 or whatever it is. You wouldn't put AHI on there though - it changes every day and a lot of e.g. nurses wouldn't know what it meant in any case, but could be confused enough not to just go ahead and treat you.

I made a wallet card with a bold header "ICE" (In Case of Emergency)that includes Rx name and dosage, baseline BP, Blood Type, Current conditions - including Apnea and settings and contact list. I folded it over and "laminated" it with clear shipping tape. It sits behind my license so when they take that out they will see it. Printers make smaller type very readable so you can get a lot on such a card.

Additionally, I made 3 entries in my phone contact list with names * ICE-Wife (name); * ICE-Son (name); * ICE-Bro (name). The " * " makes them sort to the top of the list. Tip: Even if you put a friend on the list, ID them as family so they will get called. I understand the emergency folks are hesitant to call non-family members.

It's going to be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end.

The ONLY folks I know who would go thru your wallet if you were found unconscious are crooks. That makes the Medic Alert bracelet a much better option.

I found this website that you can go into and input your information and print out a Medical Card in color for FREE.
