OT: Hey Slinky, it has happened :) - bub has arrived

Post by dsm » Mon Mar 23, 2009 3:07 pm

Slinky is already a great grandmom & today I join the club as a great granddad

I have known for a while it was a boy - still have got all the details as they are in NZ & I'm in Aust.
We are expecting all to go really well as mom & bub have been checked regularly & it has been very
smooth all the way through. The new Mom is a real trouper.

She is the one on the far right with her partner (pic was taken 12 months ago). The two tall
lads at the back are the partners of the two blond girls (my grand-daughters). My daughter is
on the left to the front & she has 5 children (boy on left, two big girls & 2 little girls).

DSM - a proud day

Image

Here is the graddad of the new bub (my avatar was snipped out of this pic) - he was away when the other pic was taken.
His brother is Peter Gordon who is a TV chef in the UK ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Gordon_(chef) - http://www.peter-gordon.net/

They live in Wanganui NZ which is where the photos above were taken.

Congratulations, Doug! My family was very lucky to have my great grandma around for her 100th birthday in the 1990s.

My mom's name is Mady (short for Madeleine)!

Are you sure you're old enough to be a GREAT grandpop?

I really struggled to get used to the idea of being a granddad when that happened but the #s just overwhelmed me - the funny part is I am delighted at being a ggd - I no longer worry about the age issue

I have a lot of empathy for my kids coping with being grand parents - it does take an adjustment but am delighted my grandkids want to have families at a young age - I had 5 kids by age 27 (admittedly my 2 boys (#2 & #5 of my 5) were adopted so we cheated a fraction). We did have 2 foster kids at different times as well but only for a short spell - we did reach 6 kids at one point.

Just got the birth details

Boy 8lb 3oz - lots of black hair - all went very well - baby was born at 08:00 this morning NZ time & mum off home in a couple of hrs (about 13:00).
Name allocated is Ryland (Mady says it is an English name. Only reason that matters is that she & her siblings all have exotic names Madhavi (Mady), Michiko (michi), Didier(Dee), Meeka (Meeka) & Jian-Claire(Janee) - Julie their mum was into that self was into dead straight names Julie-Anne, Paul Tere, Belinda Jane, Anne Marie & Philip Andrew) )
