Congrats!

I had my first on my first night of CPAP, leaky mask and all! It's an odd feeling to wake up and realize you were dreaming, and you can't remember the last time that happened.

It's quite an emotional moment. I'll be honest, it brought tears to my eyes...

I've always had dreams, but they kept getting cut short. Now they seem to go on forever.

Isin't it great! I am dreaming like I'm a kid again and loving it! It almost seems the more vivid my dreams are and better I remember them in the morning, the better I feel. I'll label it, "dream data"!

i had the same feeling, when i start to be treated with cpap, i used auto mode (4-20cm) first, ineffective, still tired, but then i increased my min pressure to 11, and i started to remember dreams, which have been gone in my miserable nights for years, and i woke up feeling wonderful(mentally and fisically), but this fenomenon only last for a few days, and now my dreams have gone again, i don't know why. Does it mean anything wrong with my treatment? my actual pressure is from 12 to 15, i felt very good during the day, but i can't remember dreams, why?? could someone tell me the reason?

and why osas patients like us couldn't have dreams when we're not treated?

Even at my worst I had short dreams, but they were always bad ones. I dream(ed) every time I start to doze,(which is often). But some of these nap dreams may be part of a sleep disorder, as they occur while still awake enough to be aware but asleep enough to dream, and the line gets blurred between reality and dreaming. But since my OSA treatment got on an even keel, the involved nighttime story dreams are regular and often I remember them.

Since the intricate dreams are thought to happen during REM sleep, and OSA patients may not make it to REM or their REM is very limited and fractured, that could account for an absence of dreams. Dreaming again is a good thing. Remembering them MAY be more likely for those who are awakened by external stimuli (like alarm) than for those who wake up naturally, since supposedly being awakened during REM makes dreams more recallable. I have wondered if my very few events still showing on the software are happening during REM and why I remember my dreams so often. Hmmm.

Before c-pap I always had dreams. All of the dreams were short and all hadthemes about not being able to catch my breath. As soon as i started therapy my dreams changed. I now dream forever and no breathing issues.

Once again, I must be missing something. I've spoken at length with my RT and SC about dreaming and both said that remembering my dreams, or even that I had dreamt at all, meant that I was waking during REM, thus cutting short a full sleep cycle, and that's not a good thing. They both said that ideally I should want NOT to remember dreams or know that I was dreaming, because that likely means (if I hadn't awakend) that I was making it all the way through my sleep cycles. So here I was, happy that I wasn't dreaming for the first time in a long time!!

Can anyone clarify for me??

I don't remember my dreams anymore since I started CPAP. There are some mornings where I don't remember dreaming at all the night before, even though I know I did. The only time I remember them now is if I am having one when the alarm clock goes off....

Totally confused!!

could anyone clarify the myths of dreams?? is it good o not good for osa patients remembering dreams during treatment??

before cpap, i never had (remembered )any dreams for years, and with cpap, i could remember clearly the dream a few nights, and woke up feeling good,

i think it a good thing o sign to us, that we're being treated in a correct way(adequate pressure and lower apnea and hypopnea, which make us sleep better)

because i remember that during the first 2 weeks i started to use my resmed, i'm totally walking blind with the pressure setting, i use automode 4-20cm, and the ahi indicates very low figures, but i still felt tired. and luckily i found this forum and began to optimize my setting, like 10-16,12-15,even cpap mode of 14cm, the first 2 nights i tweaked my settings, i started to remember clearly my dreams, which had been gone for so many yrs, and i woke up feeling great, but my ahi figures went up high, so i'm confused. after the first two nights of 12-15(i felt good with them), my dreams disappeared again, until yesterday i read this thread and i really wanted to remember dreams again, i changed automode to cpap, using a pressure of 14cm(i thought using automode, the pressure changes disturb my sleep cycle), and just before i woke up, marvelously i had dreamed again, clearly, though it was about a car accident witnessed by me:as a walker on the street in the dream (at night a boy fell off on the road, and a Mazda 6 went over the boy without stopping, violent dreams), i now felt good after waking up

so i'm confused, before a/cpap, i spent numerous nights without dreams, but now with xpap, i can remeber dreams a few nights when i got the right settings on my machine. i think it a good sign of recovery, what do u think?? thanks

Based on all that discussion, maybe some of us are dreaming for the first time in a long time because now we reach that stage of sleep. Maybe it's also true that remembering all your dreams would indicate disruption of that stage sleep. Maybe it's ok though, like in my case, to remember one last dream of the night when I wake up.

Keep a log book or a voice recorder nearby. When you wake, document what you dreamed about. It is quite interesting when you look back upon what you have dreamed about.
