New Machine and I HATE IT

Post by Severeena » Sun Mar 22, 2009 8:30 pm

I now am the proud owner of the ResMed Elite II.

I cannot change anything on this machine nothing.

I have to have a stupid card for everthing.

How much are these *%#$ readers?

Will insurance companies pay for them?

I'm not all that familiar with the Resmed product line, I use a Respironics model myself, but if it is anything like the respironics models I'm betting that you may be able to change the settings without the use of a card reader ... although having the card reader would make your therapy a lot easier to manage ...

Anyone out there know if it is possible to set the Resmed Elite II without a card reader?

You don't need the card reader to change the settings, at least if it is like the Autoset II. Just hold down the right and the down buttons at the same time, and that will open the Clinical Menu. Just follow the menu to set the various options.

You can also see your data on leaks, AHI, AI, HI on the LCD by going into the clinical menu, or by turning on Smart Data.

Severeena, have you tried this?

ResMed S8 Series
To get into the provider setup mode in a ResMed S8 CPAP machine - such as the S8 Compact, S8 Elite or S8 AutoSet Vantage:

Press the right and down-arrow buttons together for about 3 seconds until the "Clinical Menu" appears on the screen.

Use the up and down arrows to cycle through the settings. When looking at a menu item, if you want to see the changes you could make to it, use the left arrow button under the word "Change" and then use the up/down arrow button to toggle through the possible changes that can be made to that setting.

Use the left button under the word "Apply" if you want to save a change you are looking at. If you don't want to save a setting you're looking at, don't press the left arrow button under the word "Apply." Instead, use the right arrow button under the word "Exit" to go backwards in the menu. Pressing the right arrow button under the word "Exit" about four times in a row will completely "Exit" you from the Clinical Menu.

I have the same machine - just got it. I downloaded some instructions for the S8 Compact. The machine must be really new, I couldn't find it (ResMed S8 Escape II) or the humidifier (H4i) icons for the sig line.

I can only wear the mask for three to four hours a night. It feels like I can't breath and I take the mask off. I'm trying additional humidity to see if I can make it any longer.

This is the new one that REsMed came out with.

I like the quietness of the machine, but I feel like I am not getting any benefits from the machine.

This is my machine is the S8 Elite II.

My humidifier is the ReMed H4i just came out.

I will check out the info you gave me Rested Gal.

I don't think they are the same. If you have the Escape, it is not a data capable machine beyond basic compliance data, to my knowledge. You need to contact your DME and tell them you have the wrong machine you need an ELITE II, with full data capability. INSIST on it.

Sharon, I have used that brand of machine in the past and preferred it's screen options to my current machine. There's some real fans of that specific machine on here, so hopefully they will help you get past the "getting acquainted" frustrations. Hey, at least there's something to be said for quiet, right?! Hope you sson will be able to say you LOVE your new machine.

Tenspeed, about feeling unable to breathe - is it due to congestion or a sense of not getting enough air? If congestion is the issue, it can take some experimenting to find if less or more humidity works best for you. Some need heated humidity, some hate it. Might take a while to figure it all out. If congestion is not the issue, I'd wonder if the pressure is adequate for your events. Don't know what mask you're using, but if not a full face mask, could your mouth have dropped open causing you to feel you can't breathe?

I'm confused, is your machine an Elite or a Compact? There is no Compact Elite, it is one or the other. It should say either "Elite II" or "Compact" on the top of your machine. If its the Elite, then the advice you have been given should work. If it is the Compact, then that is a very basic machine and its no suprise you are frustrated by it.

Yep, alnhwrd is right. If the machine is a Compact, then it doesn't show data, and I don't know if it will work to change the setting the way we are suggesting. The Elite II does everything that an Autoset II does in CPAP mode, and the user manual, and I think the clinical manual are the same for both. So it depends on what you have, what will work.

Sorry you are being so frustrated with it!

These two machines are pretty different. The Compact only has hours used available as data, while the Elite is fully data capable. The blurb on the Compact promotes it as a good way for the DME to set up "trailing revenue", in other words, it is the machine that the DME will make money on. Those customizable reminders are to remind you to buy more masks or filters.
