Question about Remstar Pro M series with C-flex...

Post by MissAmethyst2U » Fri Mar 20, 2009 11:06 pm

Hey everyone! It's been a long while since I have been on the site. I just got my new machine today (had the goodknight 420S for over 5 yrs) so I am happy to have a new toy Anyway, I got to pick which machine I wanted pretty much which was pretty nice since they were cheap when I got my first machine. My doc wanted to make sure I got one with really good data for her to look at though since I don't tolerate sleep studies well. So I had the option of the Remstar Pro M series with C-flex or the S8 (can't think of the other part of the name of that one) I liked the look of the one I got better than the S8 only problem is when I came home I took about a 45 min nap and its soooooooo loud compared to my Goodknight! I haven't played with it much yet so I am hoping it will get better. Also why in the world did they put the hose connection coming out the back and what is with all the cords!? lol... Yeah I am thinking I made the wrong choice...I also think the machine is probably a lot quieter without the humidifier? One thing I do love is the C-flex. The lady who set up my new machine said it was fine to use but my doc has never mentioned if I should or not. My pressure is at 11 and I like the C-flex at 9 which is 2 on the machine I think (lol are you confused yet?) Can anyone give me any good advice about this machine? Do you think I should have gone with the S8? Oh, I got the Swift LT for her a few months back and have to say I LOVE that mask!

One other thing, now that I have the new machine, the Goodknight works fine and I still have extra supplies and all for that. Do you think its fine that I could leave that one at the boyfriend's house to use when I am there so I don't have to lug this giant thing (compared to the Goodknight its bigger) with me. I only sleep there maybe once a week. I honestly don't think my doctor will care if I miss one night of data on the new machine as I am very compliant with therapy and have always been from day 1...

They are both good machines I have both. The new S8 Elite's give you a chance to read what has happened on the led display each morning and the M series gives you an average of 7 days and thirty days on the screen. If you get the software and card readers either one will be great.

Thanks for the reply, I tried the machine by itself without the humidifier and omg its still LOUD. (to me anyway) I just can't believe being a new machine its that much louder than my old Goodknight! I am kinda disappointed You said you own both which one is quieter? I am just not sure that this machine is gonna work and I have no clue if they would exchange it Monday or not...

The Res med s8 elite II is mutch more quiet than the remstar machines. The resmed doesn't have the Darth Vader Breathing sound. I would ask to take your new machine back and see if they will trade it for an S8 Elite II. Good luck

If it's any consolation, my wife says my Remstar "sounds like surf" and lulls her to sleep.

.
I have the Auto CPAP M Series with Heated Humidifier - it reminded me of a clothes washer churning. I don't have a problem anymore because I wear the silicone foam (tapered) ear plugs so I sleep in perfect quiet (except for the mask sound which I hear because it is so close and air is going in to my nose, but that doesn't bother me.) I'm very happy with my APAP device.

Probably the Resmed S8 Elite II & the M Series fully data capable machines are comparable in quality & capability. . . from what I've read on the forum.
You might be happier with the S8 Elite II if that is, in fact, quieter.

No one has answered your questions about leaving your Goodnight machine at your boyfriend's house. I would certainly do that. Missing a night or so a a week is not a good idea and it is better than lugging your other one over all the time.

The S8 is significantly quieter than the Remstar.
But I didn't adjust well to its algorithm and went back to the Remstar A-flex.
It's an individual thing.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I will be calling first thing tomm morning to see if they will exchange the machine cause I cannot stand this one! It's driving me nuts. Not to mention I haven't felt well since I got it and have been sleeping a lot. (or trying to My full face mask I have for when my allergies are bad or when I have a cold makes horrible noise cause it leaks around two parts on it and I can't figure out how to fix that (Its the Pro Basics Zzzzz mask I believe and this started after my heart surgery last yr when they used the mask on me during it so I somehow think they messed something up on it but who knows) so between the noise of that and the machine I about went crazy last night. I finally switched to my swift LT this morning even though I knew I would probably open my mouth some but I sure slept better for a couple hrs even if I did.

Hawthorn, I just want to clarify with the whole leaving the machine at my BF's house thing. I would NEVER go not even one night without my cpap machine whether I would have to lug the new one with me or not. I just can't do it I have been very compliant with cpap therapy since day 1. Even my doctor has mentioned hwo compliant I have always been. I can only think of 4 nights in almost 6 yrs that I haven't slept with it. One of those being when the power went out and omg I about had a fit! I even nap with mine even if it is only a 30 min nap...

I have used a Resmed cpap and apap, and now use a Respironics M Series Pro. All have been quiet, but that may have to do with my pressure being only 12. From what others have said, even among the same machine, they can sound different.

I know that even when I got a replacement mask of the same style, the air going thru it sounded different enough to take me a couple nights to get used to. If your mask wasn't driving you crazy and you were not already feeling bad, do you think the machine noises would stil be as irritating?

Maybe you could take the machine to your supplier and ask them to plug yours and another of the same machine in at the same pressure and see if yours is inordinately noisy. There's always a chance you got a defective one.

OK so I talked to my home healthcare company this morning and they will swap this one out and either I can get another one like this to see if this one for some reason is defective or I can get the S8 Elite II I believe it is. After doing some research on here and online it looks as if the S8 is quieter so I am hoping ya'll are right I feel horrible this morning and don't know if its the new machine of if I am really getting sick since I haven't felt too great all weekend. Hopefully I can come home and take a nice long nap this evening without all the noise
