Recommendations for a Small, Lightweight CPAP?

Post by kenv98223 » Mon Nov 29, 2004 6:06 pm

I travel a lot for business, which means that my Respironics REMStar has taken a lot of trips inside suitcases and carry-ons. As a result, it's now in the shop for repair or replacement.

What I'd really like is to swap it for something more suitable for travel - i.e. smaller, lighter and more rugged. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for such a machine?

kenv,

"The" machine you are looking for is one of the Puritan Bennett 400 series.

They have two versions of straight cpap, an auto-pap and a bi-pap. All are the same small light simple design (about the size of (3) VHS tapes). In Jan '05 there is an integrated humidifier comming out that is similar in design to the respironics one. You will be amazed at how light and portable these machines are.

This link has several pictues that show the relative size. Also check out the Oct news letter at cpap.com for a picture of the integrated humidifier.
Sincerely,

travel cpap

kenv, I can certainly recomment the PB 420 series. I too travel on business 50% of the time. I also use the Remstar Pro at home. I bought the PB 420 online to use just for travel. It is the smallest cpap on the market and fits well in luggage or carry on. I have it packed with another mask that stays just with it and use it while on the road.
Get one, you'll never look back, it was the best money spent!

PB 420G

I agree with the post above, and can strongly recommend the PB Goodnight 420G as a travelling machine. I use a PB 318 as my home machine (That's what my insurance gave me) - but it's a big and heavy unit, which I hated to lug around with me. As a result, I bought a PB 420G when it came out a couple of years ago to also keep it packed with a separate mask and hose, and it's an inseparable part of my travel luggage. The machine is incredibly quiet and light, and it works fine - my pressure settings are 16cm, so it can handle high pressure needs no problem. I don't need nor use any humidification, so I can't speak to that.

Plus, having a dedicated travelling machine means that I won't ever need to be without a machine, should my home unit break.

It's currently selling for $310 including free shipping at cpapplus.com, who I can also recommend highly. When I got mine a couple of years ago, it was $425, and I'd say it was money very well spent.
