3 DAYS and counting.
3 DAYS and counting.
I expected instant relief. Or a great feeling waking up. .
Nothing farther from the truth..
The first night the air cooled my face till it was uncomfortable. Brain freeze.
The mask had a natural vent on the bridge of the nose venting so much fresh air
it chilled my face.
I persevered till 4Am the first night.
The second night, I got water in my tube for some reason the machine would reset from
heavy pressure to light. which immediately woke me up several times almost feeling like the
machine had quit in the grog fog of my abrupt wake up.
The third night I pre-dryed my tube and mask, the machine felt like it never went to the high
setting of 20 my diagnosis said it should need to aid my apnea. I woke up 30 minutes before my
alarm went off and couldn't sleep. . Went to work and commenced to be narcoleptic for the first 3 hours.
Well.. Will I ever feel better?

Huge help to yourself if you register and list your equipment. Clock on My Wisdom in the mean time and can start getting a feel for the equipment and problems people are already having and repairing.

RodC,
Hang in there.
The honest truth is this is not an immediate gratification therapy. I was fortunate enough that the sleep tech warned me this when she sent me on my way to the DME. It took me about a week to get used to the equipment, suddenly one night I woke up and realized I was unaware of my mask. About 3 weeks in I started to see noticeable improvement. The first ones come like a whisper - you think that you're imagining them. The all of the sudden you'll see a lot of them and you'll be able to say yes this is helping. You see, your body repairs itself while you sleep, it will first make repairs on the inside where it's not noticeable, then it goes to the visible ones.
You made it till 4 your first night? That's great - really, many people can only do 2 to 4 hours in the beginning.
The water in the hose is called rain-out. My first therapy problem also. It is caused by the humidified air is the hose cooling, and that causes the humidity to condensate. Solutions: 1) wrap your hose. I purchase 10 inches of polar fleece and secured it with elastic bands. 2) Move your CPAP as close to the floor as possible - this will cause the condensation to go back into the machine, not your face. 3) adjust the humidity level on your humidifier. 4) look into purchasing a heated hose. 5) raise the room temperature. I'm missing 2 hits, but I know someone else will look at this and say "you forgot", but this gives you a start.
Setting 20? Sounds like you might have and auto pap, which it never getting to 20 might be a correct statement, what are your settings? Register, fill out your profile and read both "Our Collective Wisdom" and "Where a newbie should start" Most of us have been where you are now, come on in.

Welcome.
Hang in there...the sleep tech gave me the impression that I was supposed to instantly feel better after the first night.
I'm still waiting for that. But, there have been incremental improvements....

Re: 3 DAYS and counting.
I'm on my third day too! And I've had the same problems but none as bad as the darn mask hitting my nose and making it sore and feeling bruised. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't wear glasses during the day. Now I have that constant nose pain and sleepiness all day. Grrr! That rain is annoying too! My roomie keeps it cold cold in here so I guess I'll be making a hose cozy soon. I can't think of anything right now except how to keep my nose from hurting tonight. I was told I needed to wear a full face mask because I sleep with my mouth open (and that darn overbite!) Right now I'd take any mask that didn't hit my nose! Anyone out there know of a way to pad your nose or mask to make it hurt less?
Good luck on your 4th night! At least it doesn't scare my cats. They are getting so used to it I'm afraid they'll start playing with the hose when I hang it up to dry out. Do you really have to wash the hose out every night? It never seems to dry out inside. Maybe I need to get two of them to switch off every day? Anyone have any clues to wash and dry the hose? And is it really important to wash out the hose every day? I have hypersomnia and I'd like to use the machine during the day when I have to take naps, but if I wash out the hose there is just no time that it is dry enough to use. What does everyone else do?

Yep, instant relief is not typical—for most of us, it takes time to adjust, and for many of us, part of that adjustment is tweaking our treatment. You've come to the right place to learn. Good luck & hang in there! When all's working as it should, it will be worth the effort.!

Re: 3 DAYS and counting.
I edited my machine stuff.. 4th day now..
Totally wet system last night.. no special changes or reason.. ripped it all off at 4am.
Water in my mask, hose and all.. didn't want to mess with it since I wake up grouchy anyway.
Thanks for the inputs.. I really figured I would get instant relief.
What a dummy.
I also didnt know the place I went to to get my machine perhaps is a kind of coach or somthing.
Is that possible. .? I just thought it was a place to pick up the stuff. .
Hey can I read this thing it has a SD card slot.. ResMed Autoset II
Wonder if I can get an example of what I would find.
OH well. I am noticing less the mask on the face. Thats nice..
Wife says my snoring vanished the day I put it on.
Bass.

Karla1958,
Make it easier on yourself. You do not need to wash your hose everyday. Under normal circumstances there is nothing to get it dirty. You don't even need to disconnect it and let it dry. If you are using distilled water, as you should be, the moisture in your hose will be clean. I check mine every so often with a flashlight and after a year and a half it is as clean as new and I have NEVER washed mine.
But do keep your cats away from your hose. Those claws are deadly.
As mentioned on your other thread, you can cushion your nose with a bandaid or a small piece of moleskin. And do it now, before the skin breaks. Some people have had luck making a gasket out of T-Shirt material. Go to the yellow light bulb above and get all kinds of suggestions that will make using your equipment more comfortably. At some point you may be able to try out a different mask, but or now, if you are leaking air out of your mouth while you sleep, you need to tape your mouth shut. I use 2" wide 3M transpore tape. It comes off easily in th emorning with no pain, and I am allergic to most tape adhesives. This one doesn't bother me.
I'm so glad that you got your machine and will look forward to your reports as to how your therapy is improving your life.
