I am now debating between the Intellipap by DeViliss or the ResMed S8 elite II machine. I have read that many of you use the ResMed and highly recommend the Elite II as being the gold standard.
Any thoughts on the Intellipap machine?
Thanks

I'm not certain there really is a "gold standard" because the machine you need depends on the results of your titration.muirwoodsue wrote:I am now debating between the Intellipap by DeViliss or the ResMed S8 elite II machine. For me with the Resmed line the AutoSet II is my "gold standard" as that machine gives me a few options... one of them being able to run it in either CPAP or APAP mode.
Some folks do better in CPAP mode than APAP. I'm currently running my machine in CPAP and seem to be doing well.

The IntelliPap can also run in either CPAP or APAP mode. One feature the IntelliPap lacks is exhalation pressure relief; not an issue for me, but some people prefer it.

What's your prescribed pressure?muirwoodsue wrote:I am now debating between the Intellipap by DeViliss or the ResMed S8 elite II machine. I have read that many of you use the ResMed and highly recommend the Elite II as being the gold standard.

The only "gold standard" for OSA is CPAP therapy.....and different brands (seem to) work differently for different people.

Re: DeViliss Intellipap or ResMed S8 Elite II??
According to the prescription, my optimal pressure is 10cm.
My head hurts thinking about all this.
Now I am reading about ResMed Elite Auto II.
What is Auto and why do I need it?
Sue

Re: DeViliss Intellipap or ResMed S8 Elite II??
Sue,
I am fairly new to APAP therapy but can tell you I have the S8 II Auto Pap and I love it, its extremly quiet, what EPR or Easy Breathe is, is defined as when you exhale it relieves some of the pressure so you dont have to fight so hard to breath out. I am not sure how it works but it gets in a rythm with your breathing to relieve some pressure as you breathe out not all but it makes it alot easier to exhale. IT WORKS LIKE A CHAMP, Now the difference between CPAP and APAP, I did a little research and heres what I got from it, A CPAP is a fixed pressure constant no matter how you lay side or back, no matter what you day consisted of its a constant pressure. The APAP on the other hand is a set range of pressure and the machine itself adjusts to the pressure you as a patient require to prevent apnea. What I have read is, depending on your daily routine you pressure requirement can vary (If you drink alcohol, are in the woods, yard working, around dust, strenous exersicise, you get the point) The APAP will compensate and adjust to what you need. Thats the difference or as I see it but Im no RT or Doc just a patient. Im not sure Im getting Maxium benifit from my machine beacuse of mask issues but we will see once my card is read by the provide, I hear they are more concerned with compliance though we shall see.

Re: DeViliss Intellipap or ResMed S8 Elite II??
I just spoke with CPAP.com and they said to me unless my doctor prescribed a auto machine, that I should NOT get it.
She could not tell me why. My prescription just is really a "form" letter that says cpap must be fully data capable.
I makes sense about the auto -vs the elite. I am actually going to go to a new DME tomorrow. The one I went to yesterday didn't even have me try on ANY masks. Just was going to give me what I used in my titration study. Plus they keep pushing the Intellipap saying that it's SO much better for the doctor to get my information. When I asked if I could get basic information off the machine, he said no, it's just codes - you wouldn't understand that stuff anyway! ACK. I told him it was my health and I want to be an informed consumer.
