Sleep Tracker Pro

Post by slacker361 » Fri Mar 06, 2009 10:59 am

Ok so I spent the 200.00 for the watch. I am not sure how it works but it works. I have only used it for two days now, and both days I woke before the buzzing of the watch, but normally I would have just gone back to sleep, but since the watch told me I need to get up, I DID. and I must say I have had more energy all day for the two days I have used it. The only ting I can figure on how it works, is that it must monitor the pulse rate. If anyone actually knows how this device works I would love to know.

No once again it is only two days that I have used it and my sleep apnea is well controlled, so your milage may very.

and no I dont work for the makers of the sleeptracker

The sleeptracker works by detecting movement. When you are moving in your sleep, you are almost awake. If you move within the time frame that you set before the alarm setting, the watch will wake you when you are closest to being awake. It is an awesome way to wake up. I stopped using a regular alarm clock after I got the watch over a year ago.

What is your data average? Before CPAP I was getting 20 min now I get 30-40 minutes average time between movements. Wouldn't it be interesting to tie this data into the data from the CPAP machine? The access database behind the sleeptracker program is not very well set up in my opinion. It gets the job done, but it does not lend itself to integration into other programs.

Here are my worst nights (ALL before CPAP (2008-12-17))

Here are my best nights (MOST after CPAP (2008-12-17))

Here is my data as seen from today and before (I should point out that I am getting over a sinus infection. Many of the recent entries show activity after my medicine started to wear off.).

Most interesting of all: I have overlayed last night's sleeptracker data onto my last night's CPAP data. It can be seen right below the VS data. It might be interesting to see the correlations.

I have only used it for 2 nights but the firs night was 46:16 and the second night was 32:55 . WOW so it only detects movement huh. I dont have to set an alram 2morrow so it will be cool to see what happens with that. I can tell that I ammore alert than usual and haave more energy to clown around with my kids through out the day, I dont think my wife likes it though because with the more energy come more clowning around with her LOL.

That's really cool! Linus, how did you get the graphs? Does it come with its own software for you to download?

They sell 'em on amazon ... seem to be pretty good prices.

Hmmm, this looks more interesting now.

I had considered such a thing before I knew of Sleep Apnea and CPAP, but not knowing how, or whether, it worked...I didn't feel like risking the money.

Of course, now I don't have the money...so it'll be on the list of other sleep related gadgets that I want to someday acquire....you'd think CPAP therapy was my latest gadget craze with the way I keep spending money on it now....

The graphs come from the software that is included with the sleep tracker pro watch.
In the case where i superimposed the sleep tracker data on top of the cpap results I had to use Photoshop.
Basically what I did is I created screen shots of the graphs and I used them later as image overlays for an imported PDF page from the Encore Pro Report.

When the Sleeptracker data is pasted into the Image of the Encore Report, it is a separate layer. I erased all but the most current night from the Sleeptracker chart. I set the layer for the sleep tracker chart data to be a multiply or overlay. After the layer selection, I resized the sleep tracker chart so that the start and stop points coincide with the CAPAP data. One mistake that I made is that I started the CPAP before I fell asleep, and the watch was set to start recording 30 minutes after I set it when I got in bed. The sleep tracker data should be shifted at least 30 minutes to the right and the end point should still be at the end point of the CPAP data.

Found the basic model (not the nicer pro model) for $100 on amazon. Can't really see the difference between the two, seems to be just the finish and look of the watch.

I just placed an order for it. Can't wait till I get it.

According to their website, you need the Pro model to have download capability.

Yikes!

That should teach me not to be such a cheapskate from now on. I think they have the pro version for $170 something.

You can still download the software and manually enter the data. You will find that the data is not the most important part. I let many months go by without downloading the data. I only started again when I started using the CPAP.The real benefit is gently waking up in the morning.

The fun thing to try is wear an oximeter on one wrist and the sleep tracker on another!

I did that for some time. You print out the oximeter report on one page. Take the sleep watch and then put a tick for each "near awake" moment that the Sleep Tracker gives you. It lets you see your sleep cycles in the oximetry data. It's very interesting. You can also compare against the data from your CPAP.

I was able to see that even isolated apnea events were wrecking my sleep cycles. I learned a lot.
