Do chinstraps work? FF mask? Nasal pillow/mouth?
Do chinstraps work? FF mask? Nasal pillow/mouth?
I found out that my mouth opens when I sleep (my mouth is dry and humidifer empty after a few hours). I currently have a very comfortable nasal mask and I want to keep it. Please me know if you've used a chinstrap and if it worked. Are the nasal pillow/mouth masks a lot more concentrated with pressure? I have ear pressure problems and don't want to aggravate that. Would a FF mask ease up the ear presssure? Brand suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I like my current chinstrap, and have even ditched my headgear and use the chinstrap as my headgear:

I use the Nasal Aire II mask, and the Deluxe Chinstrap, and am very comfortable. You can read more about it in the links below in my signature block.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Not for me they don't. I tape my mouth. If I don't, I will also drain the tank. i have probably always been a mouth breather though. So, whatever works for you, go for it. I have read the literature about training yourself to keep you mouth closed and tongue placement, etc. and even with the chins strap, I snore like a banshee. I think if one were to work for me the pressure from the strap on the top of my coconut would be unbearable. I really really like the nasal pillows though and my numbers have been great as well as my results. Good luck.

The pap-cap "chin strap" linked to above works for me!

Can anybody recommend a brand of tape to try tonight?

Thimarine,
When I first tried a chinstrap, I had issues with the pressure on the top of my head and trouble keeping it in place as I moved around during the night. I then tried the Pap-cap referenced above. Because it is a cap you place over your head and then attach the strap to the cap, it distributes the forces from the strap evenly. Even when I cinch it up pretty tight, no noggin pressure.
You might want to look into one.

3M Gentle Release Blue Painters Tape. I use two strips of 2" wide. I set them at a slight angle, making a shallow X across my mouth, which creates a little divet right below my nose. I have trouble with the tape cutting into my nose.talktobon wrote:Can anybody recommend a brand of tape to try tonight?
Search for "taping" and you'll get a zillion hits.
Cheers,
B.

The Deluxe chinstrap works well - I only use the strap on the back. It's hot in the summer, though.
I tape w/J&J Hurt-Free Paper Tape and am down to just one piece (from 3) over my lips.
I use the Swift LT and have for months. The cushion wears out pretty fast but I haven't had any problem either swapping for what I need or getting add'l ones from the DME. Haven't been able to acclimate to the ffm, but would love to be able to use it in the summertime. My jaw drops back when I sleep and that's why I need the chinstrap.
Good luck!

Yes the chin strap worked great which let me stop using the humidifier so I did not have that mess to deal with any more.
