Almost a month in now....some questions

Post by Chimera » Thu Mar 05, 2009 2:16 pm

Well, in a few days I'll be a month in to my therapy. I have to say it's going pretty well.
I have changed now to a comfort gel mask and I am much happier, with a lot less leakage.
Last night was the first night in many many years that I didn't wake up at 3 AM.

I would like to take a swing at my PCP soon about optimizing my equipment.

First I need to better understand a couple of things.

1. The difference between CPAP, APAP, & BI PAP. I'm a little lost there. Please also, what is the auto function?

2. Why do I want a separate humidifier?

3. Please suggest the best data capable equipment combo .

Sorry if these are the same old questions, but I can read all day on here and I just wander around in topics.
I need the info in a concise form in one location.
I haven't had enough sleep yet, ya know? I'm workin g on it though....lol

thanks everyone!

Clicking on some of the "Cpapopedia" words at the top of your post (in the blue banner) will take you to some of the information you are asking about.

Clicking on the Yellow light bulb (our Wisdom) at top of the page will also give you more information. The separate thread at the top of the forum is helpful too. I thinks it's called "what a newbie should know".

Happy learning!

Cannot answer all your questions, but, I have removed my attached humidifier for an external. The standard one never seemed to get warm enough @2 or hold enough water to last the night past 7 hours. Would smell like something was on fire when it ran out of water. Not a good way to wake up. This new one @ 2.5 gives my warmth and so far can go 9+ hours.

I am shopping for software. Embarresed to say my treatment has been so good for the last year that I just enjoyed the needed sleep & renewed energy.

I am ignorant about my own therapy. I guess this is the first step to becoming more aware.
