Humidifier Helpful?

Does anyone know if the humidifier is really needed for the CPAP treatment of sleep apea? Or is the unit for comfort only?

Needed, no. However, from the stand point of some yes. If you have a higher pressure or are more susceptible to dry mouth or nose then yes its needed. It is primarily for comfort and can make the difference between compliance and a happy user and someone who quits because it is uncomfortable or because it makes you dry out. Now that said it can also be a burden look up any thread on rain out. Rain out is usually caused by having your heat set to high. However some pts need the heat set higher to have a comfortable moisture level for them but, as a result have to deal with the rain out.
