Hi,
I am 7 weeks into BiPAP now, and I have some good nights, and some challenging nights. Lately, I have had an odd problem happen with my eyes. I will wake up from a deep sleep, and find my eyes are a bit mattered over, and give a slight bit of resistance to opening. The left eye will be OK, but by right eye ends up getting irritated, and I end up with a bit of pain and blinking like mad for a while. I don't know if some eyelashes are getting into my eye, or some matter is getting in, or if it is a result of air leaks from the mask. This just started happening about a week ago, and it has marred 4 nights by happening around 5AM, 2 or 3 hours before I want to get up. Once it happens, I cannot get back to sleep. It first happened 2 nights in a row using the Quatro full face mask. I thought it was due to my eyelid hitting the mask or air. So, I tried a hybrid full face mask that comes nowhere near my eyes. It happened once using that mask. As a result, don't think it is air leakage. Looking at the eye in a mirror doesn't show anything obvious. Putting in some eye drops does soothe any discomfort, but doesn't stop the blinking.
Anyone else have something like this happen?
I had about 10 days of really good nights in a row, then this has happened 4 of the past 6 nights. I still do well while sleeping, but once the issue happens, my night is over.

Odd eye problem
Re: Odd eye problem
well your eyes and sinuses have little tubes that could be blowing out fluid. Sometimes if I sneeze real hard my eye sort of sprays. Its kind of funny in a way, I mean me but hay, I am still breathing. right.

Your script sounds almost like something I could have written. I also awaken with the stuck lid and awful pain under the eyelid. I use Soothe to help with my dry eyes. I put drops in in the morning and at night before I go to bed.
Re: Odd eye problem
I'd have it looked at by an optometrist or opthalmologist.
I had a similar problem, which turned out to be a corneal erosion due to dry eyes.
It's an age thing, a climate thing, and sometimes a CPAP thing.
There are fixes, but it depends on what the doc finds.

This is great advice. A leak can dry out my eye(s) sometimes. Pain and mattering of an eye should be checked out by your optometrist/opthalmologist ASAP.momadams wrote:I'd have it looked at by an optometrist or opthalmologist.
