Resmed H3i & H4i owners

Post by Paul56 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:52 am

I'm sure most of you know that removing the hose from the humidifier unit while not impossible is a little challenging. I can see where removing this hose on a regular basis will become a royal pain.

Planning for the future... is there a quick disconnect available that will fit on the nozzle of the humidifier unit making the hose a simple "click" to remove?

If so, can you provide the link to the vendor page where I can get this little device?

I do see some connectors out there but I am not certain they will work for this application.

I'm missing something here. I only take the hose off when I need to clean it.
To clean the humidifier, I just raise the lid, take it out, and clean it without bothering the hose.
I don't clean the hose that often, about every couple of weeks. It is however, a little wrestling match to get off, but I never thought of it as too much of a chore.

Some hoses are easier to slip on and off. For example, once I bought one of these hoses, disconnecting it was no longer a pain. It slips on and off with close to no effort at all:

I purchased a connect from cpap.com. Here is the link

But I found this yesterday and it looks very interesting.

I bought the connector that Dieselgal has listed in her first link for the very problem you are describing, Paul. It works great and only cost $4 (not including the shipping). I also tried some PVC pipe connections that had been recommended, but they did not work for my machine.

That chore of wrestling the hose loose of the machine very morning to hang it up for drying is now non-existent!

I never thought that was a problem until I read this post.

I guess I don't disconnect my hose frequently enough!

I only disconnect my hose once a week when I clean it. I've noticed that some hoses are easier to remove than others. I'm still using my original hoses from 2007 and have no problems.

I avoid snugging the hose up as far as it can go to make it earier to disconnect.

If I'm having trouble removing the hose, I actually grab an edge on one side and peel it back so I can get my finger tip under it, then pinch that edge and pull from the pinched portion.

I clean my hose every other day and I have no problem at all disconnecting it. Try not putting it all the way up or on. It really doesn't have to go too far on for it to fit snuggly and make a good seal.

Alright! Thank you diesel_gal!

That first link is exactly what I was looking for but could not find it. I need new glasses... literally. I was at the optometrist last week and have 2 pairs of glasses on order... one for computer/desk work and other for driving/general use.

It isn't so much that there is a problem here... I'm just looking to make this setup easier to work with and reduce the potential for breakage due to wrestling with removing the hose from my H3i.

It's not that I clean my hose very day; only that I have to hang it up to dry because of the moisture in it from the humidifier. Turning the heat up in the bedroom and using the snugglehose cover only helps so much. I usually clean it once a month.

I also leave the humidifier cover up and the tank emplied and left upside down to air dry every morning. This keeps the bacteria from growing in it and also allows the inside of the machine to air out so no mold or mildew grows in there.

I'm just too impatient to work the hose off the tank nozzle every morning. I tried everything you all suggested; working it off with a little patience, not pushing it all the way onto the spout, and peeling it back. It was just easier on me to pull it off the spout with ease each morning. For only $4, it was worth it.

In the morning, I grip the hose next to the mask, hold it higher than the humidifier, and start tapping or shaking it against my other hand. Work all the way down the hose, always holding the part you just tapped higher than the machine. By the time you get to the part of the hose right next to the machine, all the extra water will have run back into the humidifier. Then the blower continues to run as usual til the normal shut down and the hose is all dry.

Give it a try!

WOW---I never have this problem ---I have the same hose as JNK. It slips on and off very easily. I do NOT clean my hose very day; only that I have to hang it up to dry because of the moisture in it from the humidifier. I use the PAD A CHEEK hose cover --and I usually clean it once a month.

I also leave the humidifier cover up and the tank emplied and left upside down to air dry every morning. I am not sure why so many people have a problem with removing the hose from the humidifier--you all need to eat more IRON perhaps!! LOL!

I, being a ex-mechanic learned long ago to rock the hose side to side while pulling on it. I never have a problem removing the hose. Trying to pull it straight off, makes it operate like Chinese Handcuffs, the harder you pull the tighter the grip. Jim

I never thought about rocking it back and forth.. I guess you can tell I am no mechanic I have trouble getting the hose disconnected too.. It almost feels like the hose connector is a size too small for my machine... I am going to check into getting one of those neat connectors dieselgal mentioned. Til it comes though I will be rocking my hose off Thanks Jim
