I want to give a big thanks to everyone that posts here! I've been lurking, reading all the great info here for the past month. I was referred for a sleep study by my endocrinologist who's treating me for diabetes. I started in mid December of last year, going through the very slow process of getting to the point of getting the machine yesterday. Following the great advice here, I asked my doctor to specify an autoset II. He was a little hesitant about putting down an APAP. It may be due to his association with the DME side of the business. The RT was very professional and explained things well. I was sorely tempted to turn on the clinical menu and start scrolling through menus.
Well the first night results were:
Usage: 8.58 hrs
Leakrate: 0
AHI:17.9
AI: 2.3
HI:15.6
I'm running with the prescribed 8 cm in CPAP mode with EPR of 2. Also ramp is set to start at 5 cm and EPR is on all the time. I'm thinking about turning off EPR after the 15 min. ramp is done for tonight's sleep session. The other option would be to turn on APAP and set the range from 8 to 10 cm. I want to take things slowly to get a good set of results data. I was wondering what everyone thinks of the first nights results and what to change if any for tonight.

Re: Newb's Early Results
8.58 hours the first night... AWESOME.
Leak rate is as good as it gets; your AHI is a little high, but that's not concerning after just one night. How long were you awake while wearing the mask? Personally about half of my AI's occur while I'm reading as I tend to pause in breathing (ala central apneas).
Keep going, man!!!

SnuggleHose - Got the 8 foot and cut it down to 6, used the rest for mask hoses.
Memory Foam Pillow - Cut my own out of my Tempur-pedic pillow. (works great!)
Hose Mgmt - Velcro Tie Strap

I still have to keep my exhale relief on, but I did bump C-Flex (my EPR) down to 1 setting. But ramp pressure I was able to turn off after 1 or 2 nights...Nephi wrote:

In my unprofessional view your suggested range looks like a good idea. Once you decide on some settings, let it run for about a week to get a good baseline before you make any other changes.

Um, i have an AutoSet Elite, set for 9--15. Why would one get an APAP and set it for CPAP?
I don't mean to be dopey...(perhaps i get lousy sleep LOL).

Re: Newb's Early Results
My thinking was so I could check to make sure that 3 hour titration study was accurate. It was. And if/when I have any changes I can run APAP and see if there's been a change in my pressure needs. But overall, I actually get my lowest AHI numbers when I simply run on CPAP pressure of 10 than what I was getting running APAP at 10-14. Not sure if the increase in pressure was throwing centrals, or what, but that's been my experience.Leonbergergirlalias wrote:Um, i have an AutoSet Elite, set for 9--15. i had to see my dme yesterday, actually got the owner and discussed some problems with him.
i told him i was surprised when i got my equipment that i had been prescribed a cpap and he (the dme) had the doctor change it to apap.
he basically said, he had so many people start cpap, then change to apap, that he doesnt lose money this way, they can just bring in their machine and he can reprogram it, rather than lose the cost of a machine.
and same for us, cpap may work now, but may need apap in the future.
