Nose Pillows

Post by Dottiemon » Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:48 am

I'm a CPAP user since April of 2008. I found the original pressure setting to strong and asked my doctor is lower it which he did. I believe it's down to 9.5 or 10. It helped but I still get seepage from the nose pillows at times. I have the Opus Nasal Pillows Mask Vigor8. I'm wondering if I should try a full mask vs. the pillows. Any suggestions. My machine is RemstartPlus M series with heated humidifier.

Hi There----I use the SWIFT LT nasal mask and I love it--I have zero leaks. You could try it but your Opus 360 Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask looks pretty much the same as the SWIFT does. Works the same way--You can also pick up some AYR GEL at Walgreens or WalMart---use it on your nasal pillows and your nose right before bedtime--it keeps the seal but won't mess with the structure of your nasal pillows---good luck!!

I hate Nasal Pillows, I think I've tried them all. They hurt my nose and upper lip, they aren't stable, they leak.....

After much resistance, I tried the Nasal Aire II (prong) mask and have never looked back. I don't even own a backup mask.

I run a free test drive for this mask. PM me if you're interested in trying this mask before buying it.

If you check my links below in my signature line, you'll find a link to several other free mask test drives.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Dottie....

You might want to experiment with Lansenoh Lanolin....for nursing moms.

I use a 3/8" ribbon of the stuff every night...that much lubes both nares.....and helps the seal.

Highly recommended....I wouldn't want to do without it.

on the flip side. I tried the Nasal Aire II and my nose kills me after the 2nd night, everytime I try to go back to it. I like the vision and stuff, but the fact is i sleep better with a mirage activa (nasal mask)

I've thought of trying the nasal pillows, since a friend who has osa has reccomended them, but when it comes down to it, the one thing I've learned about masks/pillows/prongs is this: ask 20 people, and you will get 25 different recomendations.

I hate to say that there is no answer, but it's really true. I've tried to do the research, but at the end of the day, what's going to work best for you as as specific to you as your fingerprint. Good luck! (as far as masks go, i really have to say I like the Mirage Activa)

I looked at the pics of it, how do you sleep on your side with the hoses on each side?

I cracked my DME up today. I went on CPAP on Dec. 12, and she tried and tried to get me to take a Swift LT that day. I very emphatically told her that I just would not be able to stand a nasal mask like that, and would not even consider it. We then went through 2.5 months with the Mirage Micro (Med and Small), ComfortGel (Med and small), comfort classic (small), Quattro (small, and keeping as a backup). She has been very, very patient, and even after the 30 days, bringing me new masks. Then hubby couldn't get his Swift LT for Her to stay sealed, so I was trying to figure it out for him. And lo and behold, I found out I love that mask.

I called her today to tell her I had finally decided on a mask.....and gingerly told her which one....she just paused silently for a monent, said "that's the one I tried to get you to..." then cracked up. She's bringing hubby a new one tomorrow, and will refit him so we can get his to work too...

I dunno. I just do. I've got them positioned pretty close in on my face, just at the edges of my eyes, and I think that helps alot. So that they aren't right over my ears. I have enough pain from the chinstrap going over my ears, the side hoses being there too would totally bug me.

And since I'm 99% a side sleeper, I just get my face onto the edge of my memory foam contour pillow and hang most of my face and the mask off the edge. Seems to work for me.

I can FEEL the hoses, they just don't bother me. Other people I've talked to (who like this mask) report the same sensation - it just doesn't bother us.

Now, I freely admit that not many people LIKE this mask!!! I'm always amazed by the reports of nasal irritation, since I don't have any of that. But I cannot deny it's true. I got this mask for free from a forum member who had a terrible time with nasal irritation from it.

But if anyone wants to try it for themselves, without having to buy it, just PM me, and I'll put you on the Test Drive!

Cheers,
Babs
