Need DME help on warrenty issues
Need DME help on warrenty issues
I have a broken Respironics MSeries that is still under warrenty (verified by respironics). My DME gave me a new one because I was due for one from insurance and told me just to get rid of the old one. I was without a CPAP for a week and a half fighting to get a new machine, so i would like to get this one repaired under warrenty (the warrenty expires in April) I called Respironics and was told there was nothing they could do for me, and my DME told me just to throw it out. Is there anyone else I can go through to get this damned thing fixed?

You may need to just call around to various DME providers. I know there is a place in Michigan, in or near Southfield, but I can't remember the name of the place, that refurbishes Respironics xPAPs.
HOWEVER, if as Respironics says, this CPAP is still under warranty then any DME supplier handling Respironics SHOULD handle the replacement. What if that Respironics had broken whilst you were visiting at the other end of the country.
Or - your DME won't be charging your insurance for the new Respironics and the replacement they "gave" you is just that - an exchange/replacment for your broken one. MOST insurances won't purchase a new CPAP for 5 years which is what makes me think this might be the case.
As it stands now, the way you've presented it, does NOT speak well for Respironics!!!! At all!! When my Resmed Auto I bought used out of pocket was subject to recall my then local DME supplier wouldn't handle the recall because I hadn't bought it from them. I called Resmed and they said my then DME supplier SHOULD but since they wouldn't Resmed would handle the exchange thru SteriCycle. Or Steri-cycle. Or however the company spells its name.
