leak rate

Post by aland » Fri Feb 20, 2009 11:27 am

I'm a new cpap user and have found a lot of great information on this site. I have a question about leak rate. My Remstar pro reports the 7 day average leak at 40. The instructions for my mask say the mask leak at my pressure will be 30. Is a system leak of 40 too high, or is that acceptable? The 7 day average AHI is 3.3.

I am too newto this to give you any definitive answer on that .....but while you are waiting I will chime in with my 'thoughts'.

I think if you check you mask manual you will find a chart/graph that will tell you how much vent at a given pressure (my mask is 35 is @9). If you subtract that number from what your machine is telling you the leakage is.........the remainder is what is actually leakage.

Someone holler is this is incorrect.

Good luck with your treatment.

What ChipsXJ is saying is correct.

Is there a chance you could get a card reader and software? This will be the best way to monitor your therapy. Here is why. Without it you cannot tell what the averages you see apply to. For instance, you could be having a leak of 30 for all but one hour of the night when the leak is, say, 100. Your average leak would be in the normal range but you could be having one very bad hour every night.

The software gives you a daily detail chart and you can seen what happens minute by minute throughout the night. This is very useful to determine what is going on with your therapy.
