Hearing problems

Hi all

I've been using an APAP for just over a year now and have responded very well. No more drowsing in the day and getting a good 6+ hours every night without snoring. I have however noticed a deteriation in my hearing over the year. I was wondering if it's anything to do with the APAP pressure as ears nose and throat are all connected. The max pressure I ever get up to is around 12 with an average of about 11.5 so not particulary high. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Andy over the past 4 years of CPAP use my hearing has become much worse BUT I am sure in my case it has more to do with age and genes then CPAP use. I am sure some got hearing aids then a few years later had to get a CPAP machine as well.

Sleeping all night is good for all aspects of health we know.

Thanks for your reply Gale. It seems the years are catching me up but at least I'm getting a good nights sleep now.

Also experiencing gradual hearing loss. Cpap or age? How would one know?

I experienced a sudden increase in ringing in the ears after using CPAP with a cold. Audiologist can find no significant hearing loss but it is harder to hear with the inner ear noise. She thought it is possible that the increased pressure in the ear and nasal passages from using nasal pillows and CPAP during nasal congestion from a cold may have done some damage to inner ear structures. I have not pursued this further yet but may in the future.

I have since purchased a full face mask for the times when I have a cold.

Are you taking an NSAID? If so, give it up for a few days (you can take tylenol instead, even if what you take the NSAID for is inflammation) and see if it goes away. If so, there's your answer.

No, no medication of any kind when problems began last week.
