Burping

Post by Mamy » Tue Feb 10, 2009 2:58 pm

Hi everyone!
I have been using the ComfortCurve mask sine (I think) December 1st. I had a two-week hiatus during an ice storm power outage (yikes!) and then some less-than positive results after my pressure was set, but two weeks ago, my Dr. increased the pressure from 11 to 13 (I am a noob! Sorry I don't know all the acronyms) and I have felt slightly less tired. One thing I HAVE noticed is that on several occasions I have woken up with bad stomach pains after about 1-3 hours of sleep. I sit up, let out a HUGE belch, like a burp from deep deep down, then I feel better and I am able to sleep. This has happened a few times and I have not changed my eating habits or eaten any new foods. What's going on? Is there a way to prevent this? Is it the cpap machine pushing air down my esophagus?

Probably. And it's fairly common and not pleasant for those who get it. Go up to the Search line (above) and do a search on the word "aerophagia". You'll find LOTS of reading. And, because the solution varies for most people, you'll have to experiment. If you could post exactly what make and model of CPAP machine you have, it would help a bit to know......and then we could determine whether it may have features you can use to alleviate it. Sounds like it started when your pressure was increased.

I've read up on the subject. Does this condition and GERD normally result in coming up instead of going down to come out?

Most of my gas goes out a different way than the way air comes in.
