Complex Sleep Apnea

Post by veast » Sun Feb 08, 2009 11:11 am

I have been diagnosed by 2 separate sleep studies with Complex Sleep Apnea. My Sleep Doctor is recommending the RESMED VPAP Adapt Servo Ventilator. Is any one else using this machine? I need your recommendations on masks. I was told that I have to wear a full face mask. Is this true, or can I wear a more comfortable nasal pillow mask? Thanks for your input.

veast, if you want to really dig into information about mask issues with the ResMed ASV machine, here's a good place to start:

Clicking this link will start you on page 21

Pay special attention to the posts by christinequilts, StillAnotherGuest, and -SWS. They were the most knowledgeable posters about that kind of machine, imho.

There was another poster, nicknamed "frequenseeker" who insisted on using her Swift mask with that machine. Christine made the case for why it's important to use only masks "approved" for that machine -- masks which can pass the "Learn Circuit" on their own.

The Respironics BiPAP ASV is another machine that can be used to treat Complex Sleep Apnea. It is less picky about masks. I use the Resmed Mirage Liberty with mine.

I was diagnosed with complex sleep apnea. My respiratory therapist recommended the Respironics Bipap Auto SV, which I've now been using for over three months.

It works very well with the Comfort Lite 2 mask -- I have used nasal mask, nasal pillows, and direct seals with the mask, and prefer the direct seals.
