I wasn't 'there' so can't know, but generally auctions have a starting amount posted (very low) and people bid upwards from that amount until the auction is over (time limit has passed) and whoever has bid the most money above the initial number wins the item. It seems likely that the $1.00 you saw posted would have been the starting amount, but as I said I don't know because I didn't 'see' the auction itself. As to how to actually bid, there are instructions given prior to any auction, whether it's online or in person, and you read them before proceeding to bid - there are rules to follow, not complicated, but necessary to be fair to everyone. But that's not really the best way to get a new mask. You haven't said what's wrong (apart from ?? age) with your present mask so it's hard to guess why you want a new one, but more important is knowing whether any given mask will fit you. You may ask a local DME to let you try on various types (most popular FF ones are Resmed Ultramirage, Quattro, Liberty and others), and see what feels best, though you still might not be able to tell til you've slept with one for a few nights. BTW, don't tell the DME about the auction as they might not be very sympathetic! Cpap.com does sell masks with about a $50.oo 'insurance' tacked on which means you could return the mask for the difference between $50. and whatever the mask costs if it doesn't suit you - most other companies don't do that.

Sam - I don't need a new mask - Judy does!
Re: I NEED A NEW MASK
The people putting up auctions on the auction site have got incredibly pricey. I know it's still cheaper than a new mask most other places, but sheesh. If you keep watching on there you can sometimes find really good prices on brand new masks. I've bought a few of them for $25 and $30, which is cheaper than the co-pay on Medicare.
The ones that start at $1 usually have a minimum "reserve" price which is hidden from view. If no one bids up to that reserve price, the mask is not sold. The reserved prices are usually a lot more than $1, unfortunately! Sometimes you'll see someone auctioning something starting at $1 with no reserve, but it's rare.

$300 for an UMFF. That's a 100% markup from CPAP.com's price.sharperjudy wrote:When I got mine medicare paid 80% and I pay 20% which was $60.00
I'm one of the biggest proponents of socialised medicine, but mother of GOD. How can they get away with that???
