I use 2 inch wide 3M micro tape to seal up my leaky lips. Works well, nearly straight leak line.

Is that the same kinda tape as the blue painters tape? If you use tape-do you still need the chin strap? I have "no luck" with the chin strap. Thanks, Larry..OutaSync wrote:I use 2 inch wide 3M micro tape to seal up my leaky lips. Works well, nearly straight leak line.

do you think i could have my chin support to tight and that may make the lip link
Re: use chin guard and still open my Mouth
optilife chin gadget isn't a chin strap by any means
do you mouth breathe?
maybe you need a REAL chin strap, or maybe you need a FFM or maybe you need to tape or use polident strips

Re: use chin guard and still open my Mouth
I don't know if your problem is with just lips opening or your jaw opening or both. But for jaw opening, I use a Klearway oral appliance to keep my jaw shut, which is a major problem when I sleep. I for sure can't use or get effective PAP treatment with a nasal mask without the oral appliance. There may be a chin strap that can do the same thing, but the few that I've tried were not comfortable enough for the tension that I needed, nor did they do the job, so I opted for the much more expensive oral appliance fit by an orthodontist. However, I still can get minor mouth leaks as my lips open, but with a full face mask, the Quattro FWIW, mouth breathing is still okay. I may try taping my lips shut, as some nights / days are not as good as others, but the oral appliance is a big help for my situation. I don't recommend the Klearway for just keeping the jaw up, it's over kill and a $2000 rip off, though it fits the teeth well and feels like a mouth full of marbles at first and the drooling seems to take forever to lessen. I got the Klearway over other types, as I naively hoped that it would elimate the need for CPAP, which it doesn't or at least not for me and not without dental side effects. I'll be looking at less expensive oral appliance alternatives when the Klearway breaks.

I MUST stay off my back to reduce OSA & snoring. I use a small backpack of solid styrofoam to keep me on my side (tennis balls too small), & use DIY customized soft foam pillow to keep my head in a side sleeping position to eliminate most OSA.

Re: use chin guard and still open my Mouth
Six months after I used the OptiLife with no mouth leaks, I started having problems with my jaw relaxing, falling open, and waking me. At the suggestion of someone here, I went out to Lowe's and bought a package of Velcro Velstretch straps on the Velcro display. A package of two is $4.99 in our area. Home Depot may carry them, too.
I put one on under the OptiLife and haven't had a problem since I bought it three weeks ago. Each strap is 27" x 1", adjustable, comfortable, and fits pretty much like a chin strap would, and seems to stabilize the OptiLife in place better than before.
I'm not brave enough to tape my mouth but that time may come someday.
