Great Idea for keeping mouth closed with CPAP

Post by MissGriss » Sat Jan 31, 2009 10:07 am

For the last 2 years, I've been cutting the legs off of small size control-top panty hose for use with my CPAP. It creates a wide nylon loop that I put under my chin and over my hair. It keeps my mouth closed all night, and also, keeps my long hair from getting stuck in the mask's velcro. The respironics chin strap didn't work for me, but this works great! The Control top works best due to the heavy elasticity, and it's a good way to re-use hosiery with runners.

I can't quite picture that. Can you post a photo? Where does the waistband go?

You are just using the wide waistband. After you cut off the legs and crotch, you are left with a wide circle that's about 6-8" wide. You stick your face through the middle of the O, so it's under your chin, over your ears, and across the top of your head. You don't want to cut much of the waistband off, since the wider it is,the more protection you get for your hair. One you have this on, your mask should be easier to put on.

Sorry, but I'm not willing to put a picture of me up with a pantyhose on my head. Not only would it be a bit embarrassing, but I might be accused for a bank holdup!

Gumby doesn't have a chin, so how can he keep it attached?????

I found the elastic isn't tight enough on a knee high, plus you need a pretty wide knee to have a hose that will fit over the head.

Hey, if it works, don't knock it! I don't have the hair problem, so I guess I'll stick with a small piece of tape

You are talking about a seriously BIG head here. Prob with that Leno chin too?

Gumby was talking about simply tieing the knee high 'around' the head for that special custom fit.

The last house I owned had a septic tank so I used my wife's used pantyhose as a filter for the washing machinre drainpipe. It kept all that lint out of the septic tank. I also use pantyhose to add carbon to one of my aquariums when needed.

Now I tie one leg around my face. And I have been using the same leg for a year.
