Slept w/o humidifier

I was so tired last night I didn't even bother to put water in the humidifier and just turned it off. BOY am I dry. My throat is like sandpaper. From now on that bottle of distilled H2O is going to be close to my bed.

Yep, when I started my CPAP, week one was with no humifier. My throat was so dry, almost felt like I was getting a sore throat. Went back to my doc and he prescribed the heated humidifier--can't figure out why he didn't include that initially! And, since then, I've never slept without it except one night that I accidentally let the tank run dry--won't do that again!!

I use my humidifier just as passover. The Respironic A-flex machine's humidifier is not a well thought out design. I had been using it on the setting of 1 and even though that is the lowest it will go, it is way too much. I ended up with masks filled with water. So now I just use it as a passover and so far it works just fine that way. I wonder if anyone has ever used it above the setting of 1 and what happened????????

my original setup was with the chamber only for the f&p hc150 used as a passover.. recently i got the actual heater unit from cpap auction.(at a really good price). but when i started using it i foundthe warmer temps actually increased the swelling in my sinuses/nasal passages. the stuffiness got worse. i keep the bedroom cooler than the rest of the house never realizing this was actually helping me breathe easier. ........so i'm back to using passover

I know what you mean. My GoodKnight 420G broke down last August, so I dragged out my old ResMed Sullivan V and used it w/o humidity.

Then I had a sleep study and they had, what appeared to me, a Fischer Paykel standalone humidifier attached with a short hose. I was SOOOO ignorant about equipment until I discovered this site a few days ago.

When I got home I got to thinking that the humidifier on the GoodKnight, while intended to be integrated, could be used as a standalone.

Since they let me keep the masks and hoses I hooked it up and it worked fine... up to a point.

The first 2 nights I too experienced rainout. It's a good thing that I was using the 10 ft hose they gave me and it the water collected on the part of the hose lying on the floor. Like I said, I was ignorant. My bedroom is really cold (59 deg) and while tinkering with the humidifier I found the knob that controls the heat and I thought it would be a good thing to crank it all the way up.

I was thinking that I would have to give up on the humidifier. Then I found this site, learned about rainout, and brought it down to a more conservative setting and it's worked great ever since.
