AI, HI, and AHI

Post by jda1000 » Fri Jan 30, 2009 12:55 am

Hi - haven't gotten the gear yet to download my data, but my AI for most of the three weeks of therapy has been at zero or slightly above, while my HI and AHI have been around 4. They vary a bit.

Does almost my entire AHI coming from HI mean anything in terms of treatment, management, therapy? I suppose overall it's a good thing, as it suggests less 02 deprivation per event - but is there any deeper meaning or concern?

My AHI in the sleep study was 42, but I haven't gotten a copy of my sleep study yet (too ignorant last time I saw the doctor), so I don't know what the breakdown was then. My pressure's 7.0.

Overall my treatment's been effective, but it concerns me the AHI of 4-ish really covers only about two hours a night - I've so far managed to remove the mask in my sleep on perhaps 17 out of 20 nights of treatment. Presumably the other 5-6 hours I spend "asleep" are not effective rest. Still, I am more rested now and more energetic - which could result from improved diet and steadily increasing physical fitness...

Remember, if you want to get a HI number comparable with other machines, you should divide the ResMed given
HI by two. ResMeds are very sensitive to hypopneas.

I know that resmeds tend to show a higher HI than other machines, but I never heard that you should divide the HI by 2 to come up with a correct # of HI. Could you please show me where this info came from? I would like to see the reasoning behind it. Thanks

Brenda

Check the thread titled "ResMed Efficacy Results" for rested_gal's post and thoughts on the Resmed hypopnea issue.

^^ So that means if my HI is less than 2 then both my AI and HI are zero. My AI is consistently around 0.0 and the AHI is around 1.4 on average.
