Chin Strap

Post by HECTORTMC » Wed Jan 28, 2009 5:49 pm

I have the Topaz and have found it to be a real pain. The velcro on the straps isn't holding up, plus the wife says my mouth opens now and then. Are there any good chin straps out there?

Rested Gal recommended the Deluxe Chinstrap to me after I had problems with the Topaz. I admit that it looks kinda weird, and when I first put it on, it feels like a "bit much" but I get used to it very very quickly.

You can see pix of how I threw out my headgear and attached my mask directly to it in my links below.

Many here really love the new PAP CAP:

and

I'd recommend either one of these as an alternative to the Topaz. I love the design of the Topaz, but it loses it's elasticity quickly, and that fabric irritates my skin.

BTW, I find I can only get about six months life out of my Deluxe. But I'm happy with that.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

IMO-all chin straps are junk. They are uncomfortable and still allow the mouth to open. What worked for me was to use a small (1/4" X 1") piece of tape vertically to hold the lips shut. You of course, can experiment with different tapes and sizes--just don't use one that will pull the skin off!! I used this for about a year and found that I no longer slept with my mouth open without the tape--HALLELUYAH! I TRAINED MY MOUTH!! Some people think this is hillarious, but they are the ones who either don't have the problem or haven't tried it. Throw those *%&*#$& chin straps away!

After six months with no problems, suddenly two weeks ago I started sleeping with my mouth open.

After searching this forum, someone suggested the Velcro brand stretch strap at Lowe's or Home Depot. Being impatient I went out and got it. They come in a set of two for $5.00. I only need one, but the size is perfect and it works well for me under my mask. It seems to keep the mask from sliding around, too.
