Neck Ache

Post by Bob Burns » Tue Sep 07, 2004 7:15 pm

The back of my neck has ached ever sense I started using my CPAP machine. It feels very similar to whip lash. I think the muscle on both sides of the back of my neck seems bigger. Using a vibrator on my neck doesn't seem to help. Turning my head all the way to the left or to the right is not possible without immediate pain. Is this something that others have had too?

Hi Bob,

That doesn't sound like anything I have experienced. Perhaps you pulled a muscle in your neck? I would go see your doctor to make sure that nothing big is up. Better safe than sorry.

I have similar problems. It's usually due to over tightening the straps on my mask. I've found that if I use a liner, I don't have to keep the straps so tight to keep air from blowing in my eyes.

What mask are you using?

Hey everyone wanting to help OP Bob Burns out...his one and only post on this forum was this one in 2004...he won't be here to answer any questions.
This is a very old thread resurrected by CMM mentioning he has similar issues.

LSAT...I don't think you will get a response to your question.

It is a good thread to bring out potential neck issues caused by strap issues though.

Yeah...it's pretty close to one of the very first posts that still show up in the archives....the oldest I found was Aug 22 (or thereabouts) 2004 and this one was Sept 2004.

I used to go back and read those old old threads just for fun....technology has changed a lot but if you look around...the problems people had with cpaps and masks haven't really ever changed much.
Rain out, leaks, mask comfort, etc...are all problems that people have had from the beginning of cpap therapy and what we have now really aren't new problems at all. Same problems but with newer masks and equipment.
It's really rare that I see a problem or question here that hasn't been addressed in the past thousands of times.

FWIW...regarding necks and straps..that's why I don't do any mask that uses a lower back strap...they hurt my already pitiful neck.

No problem. Sometimes old threads get resurrected by spam and that may have happened here though I don't see any spam in the history line...on old spam from 2011 is all I see but that doesn't mean anything as sometimes they don't always show up in the history.
So I don't know why it would have showed up on the main forum page for you (it didn't for me until your post) but that doesn't mean much.
Not a big deal so don't worry about it. Some people get a bit irritated when old posts get resurrected but it doesn't bother me so much as long as the information or problem is still pertinent and in this case...it sure is.
Someone may read this thread and a light bulb go off in their head about a problem they were having. I figure if it maybe helps one person sometime or other that it really doesn't cause any harm to have these old threads come back from the dead.

The discussion in general is still worthwhile...expecting a response may be futile though.
