Are all smart card readers the same?

Post by wongnog » Fri Jan 23, 2009 6:20 pm

Looking to get a smart card reader for my Elite II but not sure what my options are. Do generic readers exist? What extra info would my unit report? Right now i record the on device efficiency data but what something more

Thanks for the link. Looked up ACR38 on ebay but got no sellers. Anyone know of sellers in Canada or Toronto?

As you see, I'm Canadian as well. I don't know of anyplace this can be bought in Canada. If you found it in Canada, it would cost you more than twice as much as buying online form the US. I got mine online from the US. There are no customs or duty charges because it is medical equipment.

Almost all equipment and supplies for cpap cost more than twice as much in Canada. Even with the exchange, it costs much less to buy anything cpap online. I don't know if any Extended Health Plan that would cover this item, since it is not a necessity for cpap.

If you buy from an online supplier, be sure they ship via the Postal service. If they ship via Courier, there may well be a brokerage fee.

The only time it would be cheaper or comparable to buy in Ontario (every Province is different) anyway, would be your first machine (and maybe future machines - that depends on a lot of things) since you can use the Assistive Devices Program and may have a good Extended Health Plan that will cover most of the rest.

I just found the Canadian eStore for ACS, the company that makes the ACR38. They have the device listed for $26.56 CAN, and the Canadian head office is in my hometown so maybe I won't even need to pay for shipping! Sent them an email so I'll wait to hear back.

I guess that one will work. I'm no expert on card readers!

If it will work, that's great!

Let us know. The Canadian members who have Resmed machines will be interested.

Well I've been emailing back and forth to ACS for 6 weeks now and they are useless! They don't have any items for purchase from their Canadian website and they don't seem to be able to ship from Hong Kong. Where did other Canadians buy their ACR38 smart card reader? I found some US online sites that sell it, but shipping is $30-$50!!!!
