This is funny. Nobody's counting, but everyone who responds, knows their number of months. Yeah, I'm grateful for every hour on cpap, and have loved having it since I started at the beginning of September. And I'm counting!!

Wow, JeffH, I didn't know that cpap was even around 10 years ago. Lucky you.

Was invented in 1981 if I'm not mistaken. Still got my old beat up Sullivan V to prove it...LOL.

Started April 26th with a BiPAP, no data card, but it did improve my sleep. I wanted to do better, convinced doc to prescribe Auto Bi-PAP with smart card. Now I am sleeping better. Lots of thanks to cpaptalk people, all of you made the difference between good sleep and best possible sleep. Special thanks to RestedGal. She gave me lots of reading material and help getting a better machine.

After researching and reviewing, I realized that I have had apnea since I was about 8 years old right after my tonsils and adenoids were removed. I can remember waking up in the middle of the night short of breath and having to take deep breaths to "recover" at least a few times a night starting about then. By the time I was in my late teens, I didn't wake up gasping for air every night, but did have that happen on occasion over the years. It was also about then that I became "NOT a morning person", struggling to wake up in the morning, having zip energy and yawning all day long. My short term memory has been zip for about as long as I can remember, and there are huge blocks of my childhood that are just "gone" from the memory bank...I have not been able to remember them since I was in my late teens. I became depressed (and slightly bi-polar) by the time I was 16. I've had generic health problems for decades that I can probably now tie directly to apnea.

I had a client in for training this week and we were talking about sleep disorders and not being a morning person. He mentioned his young daughter has recently started waking up in the morning with headaches, is having trouble staying awake during the day and yawns all the time. We discussed apnea and how it is now being found in children and that what he is describing.....well, suffice it to say, he's getting the doc to order a sleep study for her.
