Felt Worse before I felt Better...

Post by cakmon » Wed Jan 14, 2009 9:43 am

I just wanted to post a small note. (I promise). I have been using my CPAP for about a month and I was really getting confused for the first few weeks as to why I wasn't feeling better. I was actually feeling more tired than before but I told myself that I will feel better. As many have said on this forum, we didn't get this way overnight. SO i stuck with it and low and behold, Shazaam, I have felt the wonder of having a good nights sleep finally. I had to slowly tweek my pressure up little by little to get it to where it was good for me. I was ramping from 5 to 7 and went up to 8.2 or so. I think patience is one of the most valuable life's lessons you can learn with a sleep disorder. I encourage any one who is starting out to really stay the course and battle through the tough days. Better days are ahead. Much better days. Peace in Heart and in Sleep,

VERY nice post, cakmon! Well said. The people who will benefit most are the lurkers who are too shy to post. But trust me, they read it and benefited.

YUP! I felt WAY WORSE the first six weeks of therapy than I did before. It took me trying 8 different masks, adjusting every setting my machine had, switching to an APAP, going on Provigil, and just desperate perseverance, but I got over that bad patch and am pretty smoothly sailing along now.

Great post, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Folks, if you don't "get there" within about 6 weeks to 2 months, YOU NEED TO ADJUST SOMETHING ELSE. Mask, machine settings, pillow, Pur-Sleep, Sinus Rinse, SOMETHING.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Part of the challenge is that your body is trying to make up for sleep depravation. You may never "catch up" but you will feel better as you get closer to making up the deficit.
