Efficacy data increasing

Post by GaryGarland » Wed Jan 07, 2009 2:10 pm

Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion - i was titrated at 14, and used the autoset ii first as an apap for a few nights, efficacy 11.2, then as a cpap for a few weeks, then back to apap, where i was again 11.2 and then i got a cold near the end of december, efficacy went up to 13 (understandable if stuffed, etc.) but now it's staying at 13 - have i gained weight (maybe 5 pounds). am i getting more comfortable with apap, thus relaxing more and requiring more air pressure?
i did start hitting the gym - i thought if i lost some weight (working on it) that the numbers would go down. i'd be interested in any thoughts or confirmation that this hapened to others -- thanks!

What pressure range are you using in auto mode? What pressure do you use in CPAP mode and what AHI do you get in CPAP mode? Are you using the Ramp option? Starting at what pressure? Are you using EPR? At what setting? By Efficacy of 13 I assume you mean an AHI of 13? What number are apneas and what number hypopneas? What mask are you using? What is your Leak rate?

I'm really interested what pressure range you are using. I also titrated at 14, but my 95th percentile at home is more like 16 or 17.

hi - it is my belief the efficacy data is the 95th percentile pressure for the day - so if i went from 11 to 13 my median pressure is increasing (unless someone corrects me)
i set my lower range to 10.2 (i think) and the upper all the way to 20 - i think i popped into 16 maybe once in 1 month - otherwise i hover at a max of 15 - bearing in mind i was titrated at 14.
i am hoping to see my pressure decrease over time (as i hopefully lose weight) - that is where i would imagine an apap would shine - showing lower pressures meaning lower the ranges versus keeping things static/stagnant - meanwhile, though i haven't gotten on the scale my wife is convinced i put on some recent weight, so perhaps that decrased the air flow down my throat - ugh!
