Blood Pressure Meds.
I am currently taking Lisinopril 10mg. for HBP. I was doing beautifully on CPAP and now I am back to waking up every 2 to 3 hrs again. I asked the sleep Dr. if it could be the drug, as I noticed the symptoms when I started on it. She says no, it shouldn't affect my sleep. I am not so sure. It seems to add up that I started taking it and now my sleep is fragmented again. The pharmacist also says this isn't a side effect either. So I'm asking everyone here, have you heard of Lisinopril affecting sleep and causing problems with CPAP therapy? thanks for the help, this is a wonderful site.

Re: Blood Pressure Meds.
Take this for what it's worth and that's just the experience of one person. I too am on Lisinopril (25mg) for high blood pressure and have not had any problems with sleeping through the night. Now waking up bight eyed & bushy tail is a different story!

Slapme......
If you don't already have Encore Viewer software, purchase it from CPAP.com so that you can monitor your progress daily.
My experiments have found that I have to keep my AHI under 2.5....in order to keep my blood O2 levels at 93% all night.
If my O2 saturation levels fall below 93%, my BP goes up.
My bet is that your mask is leaking....or you have mouth-leaks....and your therapy is not effective (if your BP is staying high).
Stop the leaks, get the O2 levels where they should be, and your BP will probably go down.

Re: Blood Pressure Meds.
I did a little search for you, and found that here were no indications of interference with sleep...
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor side effects.
Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide:
Coughing; diarrhea; dizziness; headache; lightheadedness; nausea; persistent nonproductive cough; tiredness; vomiting.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); confusion; difficulty swallowing; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; fever; hoarseness; increased hunger or thirst; muscle cramps; muscle weakness; severe dizziness or lightheadedness; shortness of breath; sore throat; unusual or severe drowsiness; unusual stomach pain; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

If you want better Apnea treatment get the tools. The software and reader, that will show you how your treatment is doing, I supect you have mouthleaking problems and are no longer getting the treatment you need. If you don't know for sure and don't correct mouthleaking, nasal interfaces are killers...... Jimslapmeawake wrote:I am currently taking Lisinopril 10mg. for HBP. Are you waking to go to bathroom? Just waking? Or something else? What does fragmented mean to you?

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: Blood Pressure Meds.
I'm sorry for the confusion. My BP is under control with the med. I have been checking my numbers are good. AHI 1.9 Leak rate 28.6. I am waking up to go to the bathroom again, like I did pre CPAP. For a year on Pap I had great sleep. I would sleep 6 straight hrs before I woke up. When I started the BP med I also started waking up again 2 or 3 times a night. So it seems to me it must be the med, its too much of a coincidence. I have stopped taking it as of yesterday and will see if my sleep improves. I already slept 4 hrs. straight last night so I think it is probably the lisinopril causing the sleep fragmentation. I also googled linsinopril and it can cause insomnia, which surprised me. I just wanted to see if anyone else had a problem with it. Leave it to me to have a rare symptom.

Slapme.....
It might be useful to take your BP when you get up to go to the bathroom....in the middle of the night. I realize that you said that your BP was under control....but, you may only be checking it during the daytime.

Re: Blood Pressure Meds.
My husband was on lisinopril for a few months after his heart attack. While he was on it, he was getting up once or twice to go to the bathroom each night. He had to stop because he got the persistent cough.slapmeawake wrote: I am waking up to go to the bathroom again, like I did pre CPAP. For a year on Pap I had great sleep. I also take 10mg lisinopril daily. I take it before bedtime with no problems. I no longer wake up during the night unless one of my cats wants attention.

Re: Blood Pressure Meds.
The Dr. told me to take it in the morning. I wonder if I take it at night will it have the same effect. I slept 4 straight hrs again last nite before waking up. Will see if I continue to sleep better without taking it and if I do I'll get the Dr. to prescribe a different BP med. Thanks everyone.

Re: Blood Pressure Meds.
Hi--maybe you need to take your Lisinopril at a different time of day ----to help with your sleep. I take Hydrochorothyiazide for BP (10 mcgs) as soon as I wake up in the morning and have no trouble sleeping ----BP is low now thanks to a very small pill!!!
