Hours per night

Post by speshe » Wed Dec 17, 2008 1:02 pm

Hey all,

I've been on the autoset spirit for a couple weeks now. I keep switching between the opus nasal mask, and the comfort fusion. The nasal pillow leaks so much that it is noisy and drives me crazy. The comfort fusion is better, but after a couple hours, I've swallowed so much air that I pull the mask off. I am not wearing either one more than 2 to 2.5 hours each night, and I know that isn't enough. I have a swift lt for her coming... I'm hoping that will make a difference.

Any suggestions?

Mask selection is not "an end all, solve all" thing. I hope your mask works for you.
I have four masks, and looking into a getting a couple more. Eventually I'll find the right one, I hope.
Now, I'm using the Ultra Mirage, and have less leakage with it, and its the most comfortable for me.
I too, am struggling with the "hours per night" issue. I'm now running at about 3.4 hrs per night.
However, at my age, 5.5 - 6 hrs per night is the norm, just as it is for a lot of folks my age.
I think, if I am correct, that it takes 4 hours per night, to remain in compliance.
However, the latest news is that the health care industry is going to go through analysis and drastic change soon.
Who knows what the new rules will be?
Jay

Raising the head of your bed 2-4 inches may provide a bit off relief as will not eating anything within 4 hrs of going to sleep. May be enuff relief to keep you going.

Keep in mind it it not uncommon to not be able to sleep ALL nite with a plastic mask on your face in the early part of this journey. But swallowing air is another thing completely. Be sure to tell your doc. A Bipap will provide more exhale relief and be your ultimate solution.
