Cost of repair

Post by RickStrat » Sat Dec 06, 2008 8:51 am

This is RickSt. I forgot my password and have moved since I last logged in so my email addy wouldn't work to get my password. Some of you may remember me.

My Remstar Pro is giving me an error code E-31 every time I plug it in. I'm a truck driver so it gets moved a lot from home to the truck and thus gets unplugged and plugged in a lot. It usually takes several plug and unplugs to get it to finally work. This is very annoying if I am really sleepy.

Money is tight right now. Does anyone know how much this repair will cost? My DME tells me it'll have to be sent back to Respironics. They'll give me a loaner but if the repair is very much ( and what isn't when it comes to DME's?) I may not be able to afford it.

Rick,

If you have your prescription, you could get an affordable ($200 - $300 or so) CPAP from CPAP.COM. Many are small enough to use for traveling.....like the Zzz-Pap and GoodKnight 420G.

https://www.cpap.com/advanced-find-cpap-products/CPAPS

If yours is the "plain" Pro model (and not the Pro 2), it's not data-capable and probably dates to about 2004.....so, it might be time to think about getting a newer machine.
Another option might be to check out CPAPAuction.com.

Don't know what that means, but maybe you can "reboot" it: http://rswilson70.tripod.com/
Now, I was able to completely RESET my machine by unplugging the power cord on the back of the machine then holding down the HEAT, RAMP and START/STOP button while plugging it back in. The display said “RESET”.
Which reset my machine to the factory settings. (the therapy pressure was @ 20 cm/ H2O)

Be sure you make a note of any settings like your pressure that you may have to re-program if this is successful.

E-31 error sode in the book says:

E-31 ERR_INVALID_NVDATA_LOCK •Defective EEPROM •Replace Main PCA

For a unit as old as yours, if it takes the main circuit board I would go looking for a new machine. The main PCA would more than likely cost almost as a new machine and you would still have an old non data capable machine. Sorry

Jerry

Rick, you might also consider checking http://craigslist.com for CPAP machines for sale in cities you frequent. Many of them are higher priced than cpapauction.com, but sometimes there are bargains, and you won't need a prescription for a private sale. This biggest problem with these is that people post "CPAP machine for sale" and give a price and a few other details, but almost never what model the machine is. I think a lot of them just think a CPAP machine is a CPAP machine without understanding bipap, apap, etc.
