I DID IT!!!

Post by mfbower » Fri Dec 05, 2008 4:42 am

Hi, gang,

I DID IT!

I've been on an xPAP for over a year (since Oct 17, 2007). Last night was my FIRST night where I went ALL NIGHT!!!

How did this happen?

Two weeks ago, I got a BiPAP to replace my CPAP. It is the Resmed S8 Elite II. My problem was that I felt very uncomfortable with the exhalation on the CPAP. Subtled paniced I think that I didn't feel like I'd get all the air out before I needed to inhale. So based on this group, I looked into getting a BiPAP.

Now my machine is set for 10/7.

And it finally kicked in. It worked.

Time: 6:15 hours
AHI: 8.2
AI: 0.8
HI: 7.4
Leak rate: 0.36L/s (after four ours this was only 0.12L/s but the last time I put on the mask, I messed up and kicked this way up.)
Machine: Resmed S8 Elite II
Mask: ComfortGel Medium

Wahoo, happy days. Finally some progress.

Congratulations! Huge success!
I hope your HI will be tamed further. You are into the way to resting sleep.

You should fix your profile... it's showing a DS100... which isn't a BIPAP... it's a bare bones respironics machine... plus an Elite II isn't a Bipap... so what did you get?

Sorry, should have changed it. Now fixed.

I thought any machine that did different pressures for inhalation and exhalation was considered a "bipap". I guess technically I have a CPAP with EPR/EB (Resmed terms).

Not only "technically", but "actually". In the case of the ResMed CPAPs, they actually DO drop the pressure by the selected EPR setting.....1, 2 or 3 cm.......but they're STILL "CPAP" machines. Respironics machines that use "Flex" technology, do a "relative" pressure decrease......RELATIVE to the person's breathing and exhale effort.

(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow
