What's happening

Post by kopoloff » Thu Dec 04, 2008 4:28 am

After a few weeks at this hose game I'm starting to feel like I'm in some sort of control. I've got my leaks under control, AHI averaging around 2.5, feeling better (but still a way to go) and pretty positive about this whole adventure (??)

However, looking at my data, I've noticed that when the leak line is at 0 I get apnea events. To me this is counter intuitive, but then I am very inexperienced.

Can anyone throw some light on this?

Thanks

K

This is an indication your pressure is too low at that point in time.

Thanks

Does this mean I should increase the minimum pressure setting?

There are three planets in almost alignment in the sky, i have only been able to see two but the city lights block out a lot of stars and satellites etc. Upnorth in the woods you can see satellites and all kinds of other things with your naked eye.

Did you have a specific titrated or prescribed pressure?

And/or......how did you arrive at those pressure settings?

titrated at 10 on cpap, but on my visit to the doctor she suggested I raise the pressure a little. She also suggested that I might try 6-15 on APAP. I raised to starting pressure to 7 last week, with an immediate improvement.

I sleep on my side and back

If you were titrated at 10 then a starting pressure of 7 might be too low. You might want to try bumping it up by 0.5cm or 1cm and staying with it for a week, to see if makes a difference. It can be that when you're sleeping on your back, your pressure needs are much higher and the 7 is too low.

That's where your minimum pressure needs to be.

That's where I'd put it, too, given what you were titrated at on "cpap."

If I had the software to see details of how each night goes, I'd set the APAP range at 10 - 20.

If I didn't have software, I'd set the range at 10 - 15.

The most important pressure setting to "get right" (imho) is the minimum pressure....not the maximum pressure. I'd want the min set at a pressure that prevents most events (apneas/hypopneas) from the start.

Choosing a number to put in for the max pressure doesn't matter as much, imho, as long as it includes at least some unused ceiling up there for pressures that you never hit.

OK - I'll take your advice. 10-15 it is from tonight.

Actually, its all gone to hell in a handbasket the last few nights. After a period with leaks under control, and AHI's under 2, suddnly I can't control the leaks, AHI's are getting up to 4, 5 and even 6.
I was pleased with myself, doing so well, so now getting very frustrated.

To make matters worse, I'm waking up each morning with bleeding nostrils, despite using the lanolin cream. I feel like I've fallen off the train somehow.

Thanks for listening
