I mined information and insights from this site for a year before I posted a thing and found much that was immensely helpful. While many experienced and knowledgeable people at cpaptalk do try to correct factual misinformation or enhance limited information, I've never seen any slightest sign that anyone's opinions weren't welcome. The tiff this post is a reaction to seemed the sad result of a simple misunderstanding, but one very difficult to resolve since flawed communication (and it only takes one person's lack of comprehension to create such a flaw) is hard to heal through flawed communication.

One thing I find fascinating related to the sleep disorders that have brought us together is that I can't think of any other area in medicine dealing with such a common condition where so many who have the condition become so much better informed and so much more capable of handling their own therapy than most medical professionals. One good reason, of course, is this site where the pool of knowledge is so deep and continues to deepen.

Thanks. I'm very much a newbie to CPAP -- tonight will be my one-month anniversary. There have been many who have been helpful. There have been others who made me want to crawl in a hole and pull the hole in after me.

I definitely am a newbie, and appreciate all help I have gotten so far as well as the help I know I will get when I need it.

Thanks, ozij.

I'm not really a newbie to cpap (started my therapy in early 1998), but I'm pretty new to this list. And after years of just accepting my therapy for what it was, I'm now trying to be more proactive.

Anyway, I've got lots of very good advice from all sorts of folks on this forum. I hope other folks who are new to this list--especially those for whom apnea and cpap are new--manage to find as much help as I have here. True, it may take a little effort to zero in on the posts that can help in each particular circumstance, but it sure is worth toughing it out.

Sleep well, folks.

Be forewarned that some of the long-time posters can be a little protective of the format, and rightfully so. A lot of group-think went into how it landed.

As for me, I'm not gonna suggest any changes till I've been here a year or two. Even then, I fully expect to get chewed out for suggesting it.

So, again, I applaud the thought. I'm just saying "duck" as a heads-up. I think I saw some eggs and tomatoes being passed around in the front row, and there's no chicken-wire in front of this stage.

I don't understand this post. What does posting by newbies have to do with the forum format?

I was a real newbie (to forums and osa) two years ago. Found this forum to be very helpful, and very nice (for the most part ), and I felt welcomed. I've learned all forums are a mix of a large range of people and personalities--just like life. If I have to duck a few tomatoes now and again, it's worth it for the knowledge and support I gain overall. (Not saying I've had to, but it wouldn't be that big of a deal.)

And as far as forum format (again, don't see the connection, but I may be too turkey-stuffed to think clearly!), I don't really care. I just want the help and information, and hopefully be able to help someone else a little now and then.

Pam

Pam, your confusion is understandable. Suffice it to say that MusicMan misunderstood something that jnk said in another thread, and now, under almost certainly the names of MusicMan AND BallBuster, MusicMan's systematically going through all of the threads in which jnk posted for the sole purpose of slamming him. It's nasty and sad and junior high schoolish all at the same time.
