Problem getting ComfortGel FF to seal

Post by atomickitty3000 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:35 am

I'm fairly new to CPAP (2 weeks) and have been using the ComfortGel FF for about a week and a half and I'm having a problem getting it to seal all night long. It's okay at the beginning of the night but after a few hours it starts to leak and wakes me up. And I can't seem to sleep on my side for very long before it starts leaking air into my eyes or around my mouth. I've tried adjusting it every which way but nothing seems to help

Has anyone else had this problem with the ComfortGel FF? Any suggestions for a better FF mask for side sleepers? I also tried the ComfortFull but didn't like it very much.

BTW my pressure is set to 9.

I have never used the ComfortGel FF mask but I have tried other FF masks like UMFF and F&P 431 and 432.

I too would get a good seal for the first 3 or 4 hours then it was over. My problem was that skin oils would build up and that led to uncontrollable leaks which could not be remidied unless I washed my face and mask all over again. I tried using an astringent on my face before going to bed but still lost seal after 3 or 4 hours.

I had other issues with those FF masks but I finally focused my attention on masks that had the least surface area in contact with my face ... the nasal pillow types, like the Hybrid and Liberty masks.

Hope you find the right mask ... it is the most difficult part of this treatment.

I have the same problem. The mask starts out great but after a few hours it buckles up near the eyes and leaks terribly. After using it for 6 weeks I find it my overall leak rate increased, too. I find I can get the leaks to calm down a bit by wiping my face off with one of those face cloths (I use Biore, but there are a dozen brands) and trying again. Readjusting the straps can help, too. Frankly, though, I've finally had it and am going to find another mask today if possible.

The mask fit seems to be the last barrier between me and a good full night of sleep. I've overcome the anxiety, I'm able to fall asleep and stay asleep (until the mask starts leaking that is) and I don't even mind using the CPAP that much but I'm frustrated that I haven't quite found the sweet spot yet.

I'm going to go and try some other masks on Friday, so hopefully I can find one that works better.

I gave up on the ComfortGel. All the blamed thing seems to do is LEAK! Went back to the Quattro, and I'm doing much better.

Your mileage may vary...

From own experience, with this therapy, you quickly learn:

Comfort = Crappy

Examples: The

CrappyClassic
Crappy II
CrappyGel
CrappyLite

and the CrappyLite 2!

All are disposable for a reason.
