..and then I knocked it off the table....

Post by Tcamillemars » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:56 am

Yep, knocked the machine off the table trying to de-hose this morning. I checked it out and it still turns on and blows, and I took it off the humidifier so it can dry out if it needs to. Of course this is Sunday and I can't get it checked out. I'm going to presume that I am lucky and it still works. I was trying to find my glasses. Tonight I search for an alternative spot for it- and may duct tape it to the spot.

Don't worry you won't be the first! Just check that you didn't get water in it from the humidifier.

Some alternative options:
- Put it on the floor (dust, ewwww)
- Put it in the last drawer of the nightstand (don't close it completely at night, so there's still room for air circulation)
- Get a small plastic box just larger than your CPAP, put that next to the bed on the floor, and put your CPAP in that
- Duct taping it to the table might help

You can get a longer hose (8' or 10') if you find that the standard hose is too short when the CPAP's on the ground. Good luck!
(p.s. this is one reason why many of us have backup CPAPs)

I have knocked mine off twice so far. I just have it on a step stool next to my bed though. It is still working fine.

instead of duct tape, get a few small pieces of self tacking velcro. you can get little squares or circles at any hardware store, drug store or even in most grocery stores on the either they carry tape. you only want small pieces and just a few. they'll be more than adequate to prevent flailing arms from knocking it over. Add to many velcro strips and you'll never move the machine again, unless you remove the velcro. good luck.

If you haven't already, try tying your hose to your headboard or a Command hook attached to the wall. That way when you sit up suddenly or if you pull on the hose too hard trying to take it off, you don't pull the machine off the stand. I use velcro ties, anything would work.

Potential solution:

1) Place unit on table top.
2) On either side of unit drill two holes.
3) Run large wire tie over unit, through previously drilled holes and around underside of table top.
4) Secure wire tie.

another solution - I can guarantee that it works. It is based on the premise that if you don't move, you don't do damage.

Determine which side you sleep on.

Drill 3/8 hole through ear and through headboard.

Use 3/8 x 3inch bolt and nut (be sure to use a washer or this will be uncomfortable) to fasten ear to headboard. Tighten to 110ft/pnds for security.

Sleep very well knowing you will not knock machine over.

Cheers

I am sooooooo glad that everybody on this forum has a sense of humor! As the kids say, you guys rock. I have learned so much from all of you, and somebody has the solution to the problem. If I hadn't found this site, I know I would have stopped using my machine the second night I tried it. Now, where are my drill bits?.....

Heck with drill bits, stick it down with a little JBWeld. Guaranteed you'll NEVER move it again!

Nah - you missed my point. If you bolt his ear to the bedhead, then there's no risk of damaging his beautiful, lifesaving machine. And judicious use of a fibre washer avoids bruising

My machine bounced on the floor several times per week. The 6ft hose is too short for me so I ordered an 8ft hose from cpap.com and have no more problems.
