bag under eyes
Re: bag under eyes
What kind of mask are you using?
I got pretty bad bags when I was using a regular full face mask - I think the tension of the mask (I had it pretty tight) kind of blocked the blood drainage. I'm using nasal pillows now - no baggy eyes.

Re: bag under eyes
I thought it was just me...but now I've read your post that could explain it. I wear a full face mask and recently started noticing much heavier circles under my eyes. I just thought it might be because I sleep so deeply now that caused the bags. Might be because of the mask and pressure worn during the night?
Even if I can't fix the circles/bags, I'll certainly live with that now that I get 100% full, uninterrupted, super-high quality sleep!!!

Re: bag under eyes
Remember, I'm not a doctor, but in my experience I've noticed that people suffering from (untreated) OSA tend to have dark circles and bags under their eyes. Of course trying a different mask may be your first and easiest option, but also make sure that the therapy really is working - do you have a data capable machine? What is your AHI? Leaks? Mouth breathing?

I think some of the info in this link applies to the male of the species too:

Re: bag under eyes
Me, too!! I've noticed the puffy bags under my eyes since I've started using the FF mask a few weeks ago. I may have had them a little before, but since using the FF mask they seem more pronounced. My "numbers" are so much better with the FF mask, I don't want to compromise my therapy. Before I used two different nasal masks for 1 year. I also would appreciate any good tips (other than plastic surgery) for reducing the puffy bags. I haven't tried the green tea bags yet, does that work?Richard Walker wrote:I'm getting bags under my eyes. any solutions to this?
To breathe or not to breathe.......
Re: bag under eyes
I've used PrepH as a base layer, sometimes....jnk wrote:I think some of the info in this link applies to the male of the species too:

so, the concealer, I guess, was the underwear and jeans
.........so if I use PrepH on the bags under my eyes,
do I still wear the underwear and jeans on my face as the concealer?????
Boy, that is going to make getting around throughout the
day somewhat problematic.
....also, in reference to "apply a gripping foundation",
when I'm in a tight spot, I sometimes have to grip the foundation,
even if it is under the concealer.....and jump.....
so I'm not sure what that is about either.
I think some details have been left out of that article
or I'm just really confused.......or maybe this
article and solutions really don't apply to the male
of the species.
Any additional details you could add would be appreciated.

I said that.

OK, you're right. Maybe only, like, three sentences or so actually apply to the non-metrosexual males in the real world. I admit it--I just googled "bags" and "eyes" and threw the results up there to see if anyone was paying attention. Your hilarious reply is my payoff. Thanks, carbonman! Maybe as a cyclist you should try cucumbers and tea-bags for the other end and see if that helps with your next long ride.
Re: bag under eyes
Resurrecting this thread to just ask again if anyone has any real idea about why it is that I and others might have developed bags under the eyes very quickly (2 weeks) after beginning cpap therapy. No change in diet for me, no change in sleep hygiene, time of sleep, hours at work (all good actually)....
I don't wear a FF mask, and my LT is strapped on very lightly--no leaks.
It's just kind of baffling.

Well, if you're looking for a serious answer, I am definitely not your guy. Hopefully someone else will be.plr66 wrote: . . . any real idea about why it is that I and others might have developed bags under the eyes very quickly (2 weeks) after beginning cpap therapy. . . . But if I was forcibly sent out on a limb and had to make up an answer and make it sound almost plausible, my GUESS would be this: If your health improves during the first few weeks to the point that you are getting better sleep, then maybe, just maybe, long-standing swelling around the eyes went down and that left some bags under your eyes. Swelling going down in the face and extremities is a good thing, something to be happy about. You may now be able to walk all day and not have any swelling at all in the ankles too. They call that happy-feet! Oops. I forgot. I was trying to sound serious, wasn't I?
Hope you get a better answer.
Re: bag under eyes
Yeah, I really am looking for a serious answer, and wish I could figure this out. Who knows but that your idea ain't the truth?! It does seem a paradox that with better sleep, some of us are suddenly looking 15 years older. (no lectures about the vanity factor, please. It's not a prevailing thing for me).jnk wrote:Well, if you're looking for a serious answer, I am definitely not your guy. Hopefully someone else will be.

(I can say that safely, since your gender is listed as N/A.)
The last time I was right, it was an accident. So there IS always that possibility!

Thanks for the quick replies.echo wrote:Remember, I'm not a doctor, but in my experience I've noticed that people suffering from (untreated) OSA tend to have dark circles and bags under their eyes. My machine is a RE Master Plus. I'm not sure if I'm able to retrieve data from it or not. I think my therapy is working. Its not like a night and day difference but I think I can percieve a gradual difference in my energy level during the day
My mask is a Res Med Mirage Quatro full face. I'm a mouth breather for now. Isuppose I could relearn that.
So last night I didn''t sleep too well, had a little leakage with the mask(I usaually don't have much leakage), and found I had more pronounced bags under my eyes than normal.
Thanks, Richard
