New machines are warranted for two years.....three in Canada (I'm told). If you have any problems in that time, they should be taken care of........hopefully you have a backup machine to use in the weeks that they're sent back to the factory.

Beyond that.......no telling. The word "should" in your subject heading is the operative.
I have two that are over three years old. Neither have been used continuously during that time and my original Pro 2 got sent into the factory at about the 1 1/2 year mark to fix a little "wheeze" in the C-Flex mechanism (and get the clock back in sync) before the warranty time ran out, but they're still doing well.
I think the number of (blower) "hours" may be more of a determining factor than the number of "years".......maybe.

I agree with Den... it is not duration of time but the actual hours used that is the important number... not that we can expect failure after a certain number of hours.

I would say with most devices if they have not failed early on in their life that they may actually turn out to be very reliable for a long period of time. It is that initial period of usage where problems may appear due to faulty components or assembly.

The other factor is how well taken care of the machine is. Be gentle with devices and they stand a better chance of lasting longer.

I have a Resperonics classic auto ,AKA the tank, with 5000 hours on . Last week it bounced off the floor from about a 3 foot height and it still runs great.

I'll have to check the # of hours when I get home this evening, but I have been using my machine every night for over 5.5 years. No problems whatsoever.

Although, I am thinking about upgrading to APAP sometime soon.

If I had to give a number I would say that 4 to 5 years would be great. You have machines that could give you a problem right from the start. Although they should be covered under warrantee. You also have machines that last quite a long time. My wife works with a women whose husband is on his second machine and he's been on cpap for 20 years. You never know when the machine will give you a problem. That's why it's important to have a back up.My back up is a Resporonics series M Cpap with about 2000 hrs on it. It is also the one that I take primitive camping and run on a deep cycle battery for 4 or 5 nights.

My HealthDyne Tranquility Quest was in use for just over 10.5 years, which means it has roughly 27,000 hours on it.

Then again, it's a simpler machine than most of the ones we use today--even though it doesn't look so simple on the inside. I hope my newly purchased Respironics "classic" BiPAP Auto will last that long, but I'm not holding my breath. But I am holding on to the Tranquility Quest as a backup, that's for sure!

I have a Remstar in my closet that has almost 8000 hours on it, but has a board that is going bad. Makes a good backup, though.

My original REMstar Auto has 6700+ hours with no problem so far. I'm not sure how many hours I have on my second REMstar Auto, as it is at our other house.
