I give up
I give up
After trying for over 2 weeks with three different nasal masks, I guess I am going to have to bite the bullett and get a ffm. I simply cannot breath -- my nose gets so congested and I have to "snort" all night long trying to clear it. I tried the tape over my mouth, and because I tend to "drool" or look like the creature from "Alien" as my husband says, the tape does not stay on. What a lovely picture this must present!!!!
I have tried taking an otc allergy medicine before bedtime, and even this does not work --
Those of you who use a ffm - please tell me I will be able to sleep on my side, and move around a little
Also, I have insominia, and I am concerned about taking an otc sleep aid -- is this ok with OSA???
I feel like I am going around in circles -- can't breath with the mask on - can breath without it --

Re: I give up
I wear a ffm and roll around a lot with no real issues. You will be able to move. I can at least help with that.

My ENT gave me Nasocort to open my sinuses. You might try something like that.

tolerate gluing my mouth shut w/polident strips.
Best thing I could have done for my therapy.
I am a side sleeper.
I use a UMmed. I modified a memory foam pillow to use
w/the mask. It works very well. If you're interested
I will find the thread that shows the modifications.
I have learned to turn my head very slightly into the
pillow.....in the process, put a slight amount of pressure
on the mask. It holds it in place and really helps prevent
leaks. It is becoming a habit and I am accepting it as
just the way I sleep. I wake up more and more and don't
even realize I have the mask on and that I'm breathing
through it.
I also started using the PapCap2 , that replaces the original
neoprene headgear. That makes a hugh difference in comfort,
w/the ffm.
....just remember, once you go full, you'll never go back.

to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

Re: I give up
You may experience something different with this mask... but I find with the Quattro FFM that I can lay on my side without issues. I usually sleep on my back... but in the morning I will roll over to one side or the other for a while. I use a regular pillow and will sometimes move it such that the side of my face is at the very edge.
Do keep in mind that I sleep the vast majority of the time on my back. Perhaps those side-sleepers will chime in with what FFM has been working for them.
Good luck!

Re: I give up
Hey, it's just my experience, but a couple months ago when transitioning my limb movement meds I had to resort to OTC Tylenol PM to get any sleep at all. At this point I doubt there will ever be full success at controlling the limb movements as a much higher dose of the Rx comes at a probable high cost in side effects, so I may be taking sleep aids ongoing. For what it is worth, my AHI did not increase at all with adding the sleep aid. I think the sleep aid warning for OSA folks is if it's not treated or if their pressure either wasn't or was marginally effective already. And which sleep aid may make a difference.

Re: I give up
Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
Ok -- what is a PapCAP?? Where can I take a look at one.
I had lunch with my hubby today and told him I was going to have to go to the ffm mask -- he said whatever gets you to sleep - very supportive, he is.

Re: I give up
IMO the full face masks aren't as bad as they look I had to find one that was a good fit for my facial structure and kept a good seal (routing the hose above my head was key - keeps the hose from pulling the mask down and breaking the seal, allows me to roll around without the hose getting tangled up) but once I did I'm sleeping SO much better. I can't imagine not having the option of breathing through my mouth.

I am a mover at night too. I recently changed over to a F&P Flexifit 432 and it is great for side sleeping, at least for me it is. The Quattro just never worked for me. It was comfortable but leaked like my granny's colander. Good luck in your search and don't give up.
