OT: US Election Day... still undecided?

Post by Songbird » Tue Oct 28, 2008 1:57 pm

This is for anybody who's eligible to vote in next week's US general election. Not to worry.... this is NOT an ad for any candidate. It's just a signpost to an unbiased, nonpartisan organization (it's true!!) that gathers information about candidates and makes it available to anyone via the Internet. It's called Project Vote Smart, and this is its Website: http://www.vote-smart.org. Vote Smart:

-- accepts no money from politically formed organizations, PACs or special interest groups
-- is operated by 90% volunteers; the rest are paid only minimal salaries
-- sells/provides no information about Vote Smart supporters to anyone for any reason

Just by plugging in your zip code, you can know who your public officials are, from your local municipality to the US President; who'll be on your ballot next week; and much information about the candidates, including:

-- voting records
-- biographical and contact information
-- issue positions
-- interest group ratings
-- public statements
-- campaign finances

As you might imagine, there's a separate section on the Presidential candidates. No matter who you favor, please exercise your Constitutional right to vote next Tuesday.

Done voted, not for any party or candidate , that I would want to run the U.S.A., we didn't have that option,AGAIN. We did get to try to decide which party or candidate would run our country into the ground slower. As usual the two party system wins, also forget one person one vote, that doesn't ehist either.

Why does voting for a leader for the country, make you want to chew your hand off after you lay the pen down, probably because you feel so unclean, you know you can't wash the filth off. Jim

I could even see us with a Royal Family, a Old Queen would be a improvement over what we have had for many years. Jim

It's hard to pick good people, when all the candidates come out of the same Pork Barrel. Even then the one's chosen, are found on the bottom of the barrel.

As a non US person I wish the best for the USA in the coming election. I can't recall an election in the US that has so galvanized the world's attention the way this one has. Not even the Nixon vs Kennedy election in Nov 1960 (Kennedy really caught the world's attention after he won that election).

So it seems that in some respects this has become a world election. The numbers we are hearing here in Australia as to how each country would vote are quite interesting & seem to be surprisingly similar country to country even if they bear little resemblance to the poll numbers currently being reported in the USA.

Be sure of one thing. The world outside the US will not mourn the end of the W era.

So do enjoy yourselves over the next few days - us Aussies will be spending tomorrow watching our candidates race around the Flemington race track when the country comes to a standstill at 3PM AEST for the Melbourne cup. But we will be riveted to our news sources for the big day in the U S A.

Cheers

And don't forget us Canadians - I've become such a CNN junkie (at all hours!) it's not funny. So glad it's going to be overwith tomorrow (and I hope the best man wins ).

He IS????? He wasn't nn the Indiana ballot - only the Libertarian Bob someone or another was listed. Is Nader an "official write-in" candidate? According to Indiana, only votes on the official write-in list will be counted.
I voted for the less of 2 evils this time.

I believe you mean "less dumbererest". Here's my take on things. If you're headed down a bad path, do you go with the guy who's going to make minor adjustments to the path or the guy who says he's going to change direction completely? Well, I guess it all comes down to how wrong you think the current path is.

The financial turmoil didn't happen overnight and will not be resolved overnight. Despite what everyone wants to preach, the President can't cause, nor reverse, the financial markets, which are problematic world-wide at this point.

It comes down to the social and economic policies that each candidate stands for.

One thing to think about as we head forward. When a "bailout bill" was proposed, BOTH of the major candidates rushed to Washington to vote on the fattest pork bill passed in recent memory. Yet they both talk about how the government spends too much.

What the U.S. needs most, is to be responsible for it's actions. I don't mean just the government, we the people, need to act responsible. in our jobs and in our daily lives. If we use credit poorly, we are the ones that need to loose. If businesses make poor decisions, they need to loose. If the government makes poor decisions, they need to be held responsible.

Bail-Outs are foolish, and only say it's OK to be Dumb, we will pay the price for your foolishness, and a little more, to sweeten the Pot. That just pays off the foolish, and sets a standard that foolish is the way to go. Everyone should be accountable for their actions, that's the only way to keep things moving forward. Nowadays, the rules don't apply, that's why we are getting weaker and weaker as a people. Jim

We did a survey around Asia & then a local TV station held a phone in vote & by an absolute majority
we voted you a new president so now youse don't have to bother (what we are telling you is even if you
do waste the effort to vote you won't change our result

DSM
