New User - Howdy :-)

Post by LA157M3 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:10 am

Hello:

Had my sleep study last Thursday and I'm getting my BiPAP machine this afternoon. I'm really looking forward to a restful night's sleep for the first time in almost 2 years! I did really well with the full face mask and machine during the sleep study, (they put it on after 2 hours of sleeping), and I slept very well and very deep the rest of the night.

Been reading the posts on here and found quite a bit of valuable information being shared here.

Not sure what brand machine and features I'll have but once I know they'll be posted on here in case anyone else is new and curious as to how this machine works with me.

Nice to "meet" everyone

Jeff,
Austin, Tx

Welcome LA157M3,

Sounds like your sleep study went well for you. Since you are paying for your equipment, either directly or through your insurance, take a little time to do some research on equipment/machines here so that you will be happy with the one you get. Sometimes inexpensive basic machines are offered soley to increase profits.

Oh, I didn't know you could request specific equipment. I'm assuming my insurance, (Blue Cross/Blue Shield-HMO Texas), decides what I get and they tell the supplier what to give me?

When I spoke with the lady on the phone yesterday, she told me that she thought I was getting a ResMed BiPAP but was not sure which model since she normally doesn't deal with the equipment. She could tell me, however, that I was supposed to get the full faced Quattro ResMed mask because that's what I used in the sleep study.

Maybe I'll do a little checking before I go in today at 3pm for the equipment.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Jeff,

Welcome from a fellow Austinite (close enough, anyway). The people on this board are an excellent resource, so ask any questions you have. Good luck with the therapy. It can be a life changer.

That's what I thought......I got a bare bones machine, "my insurance, (Blue Cross/Blue Shield-HMO Texas), decides what I get and they tell the supplier what to give me? " And later when out and purchased what I really needed out of pocket. (An auto fully data capable machine.) You most likely can get the machine you want if you have a Dr. write a scrip for that exact piece of equip. If you are going today, at least request "auto fully data capable machine". I don't have Bipap so can't be more help.

Thanks for the info! I called the company and they told me I have the option between the ResMed or the Respironics Auto BiPAP. She told me there is no difference in the price I'm paying out of pocket between the two. She also said that it's fully data capable and has the data card on the machine that is downloadable.

Looks like it's a go for today then!
