Humidifier erratic?

Post by Lesbest » Sat Oct 11, 2008 6:32 am

Gooday all--Have a question on my S8 w/humidifier.

Some mornings I get up and the tub is empty and other days it has only used about a tenth of the water. The setting is turned all the way up, my routine is to open the lid fill the unit too the line, sorta, close the lid turn on the machine, put on the mask and sleep. The next night is a repeat.
Should I be emptying the tub every morning? I've been adding to the water each night, should it be distilled or tap ok, I know the type of water won't matter to the humidifier.
I get no water in the hose or a wet face. I have a FF headgear with some leaks in the middle of the night according to my wife who will assist me in stopping the leak with a "gentle nudge and a YOUR HISSING message"--yea right.
Any help would be useful, thanks for any suggestions.

I don't know why your water usage in your humidifier is erratic.....I was thinking it was going out your mouth until you mentioned you wore a FF mask. But you really should use distilled water in it. Other types of water can leave mineral deposits behind from the process of heating and turning to vapor.
As far as dumping the water.....that's up to you. I don't use heated humidification and just add some more every few nights, but don't dump it......for months at a time. If you're NOT using distilled, then I'd suggest dumping it every day and maybe using a diluted vinegar solution to clean it periodically.

Den is right (as usu) about the distilled water. Use anything else and you are asking for trouble.

Leaks WILL increase water use. If you don't know how your leaks are, consider this a clue, they are eratic. If not I would say to contact your DME to check the equipment.

Sharing what kind of mask you are using (& pressure) is always helpful.

I just had the same problem. I only have mine turned up halfway, but the other night I woke up in the middle of the night and the water tank was empty. Also wear a FF, with minimal leaks. Pls send me a line if you figure out what's wrong.
