What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying a used machine?? I mean what if you spend $300.00 and it does not work when it arrives? What recourse do you have with a seller you do not know? Some are highly priced but I saw a few that were a good deal and might be better off just buying it outright but having only about $200.00 to spend on one...
Has anyone purchased one off of this auction and how was it when the product arrived?
Thanks!

Re: CPAP Auction
I recently purchased a NEW MSerires Pro unit with smart card and heated humidifier to use for travel and as a backup machine. I frequently travel by motorcycle and needed a unit that was small enough to fit in a saddlebag and was able to store data that was compatible with the software that I already had. Thanks to cpapauction.com I was able to purchase the whole unit for a great price and the unit was brand new. If you're familiar with online auctions and know how to ask the right questions you can only save money. For example, I asked which humidifier chamber came with the unit (since some of the older units came with a chamber that leaked periodically) and was told that it came with the new chamber with the staggered openings. When I received the unit all I had to do was program in my pressure and I was ready to go. I already had a MSeries Auto with AFlex so the fact that this was a straight CPAP machine with CFlex was fine. I can't tell the defference between the flexes anyway.
As with anything bought at auction, be extremely careful who you do business with. Read all feedback comments listed for the particular seller. You'll be surprised how much info you will find from previous buyers who were less than happy with different sellers.
Remember to leave feedback after your purchase as this will help others when they use the auction. It also rewards those sellers who have been honest and straightforward in their parctices.

Re: CPAP Auction
I bought a mask off cpapauction.com and the same mask would have cost me $77+ shipping and I got it for $50 shipped -- brand new in package.
The problem is that the seller isn't an "authorized retailer" and therefore can't assist me with a poorly fitting mask and the mfg won't step up to, either.
I'd suggest going with a "used equipment dealer" than just an individual though.

Re: CPAP Auction
I have bought several machines through cpapauction - the deares cost $2100 another $750 - these plus all other gear I have bough via the site have been excellent.
The worst stuff I ever bought was when Yahoo auctions were running. Some of the gear sold there appeared to come out of trash cans (but to be fair I only bought those ones cheaply & to pull apart out of curiosity)
One reality though, is that cpapauction don't represent the morals of the sellers. The feedback mechanism is what is used to determine if a seller is a good trader. If the seller has no feedback then ask them about the machine
These are the pertinent questions
> was the machine used by a smoker
> does the machine have any smoke smell or odours in it (avoid using a cpap next to a campfire )
> how many hours use
> is the machine in good cosmetic condition
> has the machine been repaired or reconditioned
Good luck

Re: CPAP Auction
I too purchased my unit last month from a user here, and I'm happy to say
the machine and equiptment were all in great shape. It seems he only used
this Vantage for a couple months, and I was able to get a fair price.
Sure, there are never guarantees in private purchases like such, but for
the most part, as long as I've been on this forum, I find the folks here to
be informative and trustworthy. Additionally, I've purchased a mask off
cpap.com and had quick shipment with the mask as described, new in box.
Folks here have faired very well with that site, and I cant recall any negative
feedback on a purchase. Good luck to ya!
