I heard the M Series from the Other Side

Post by Babette » Mon Oct 06, 2008 10:21 am

Hey, so I had an interesting experience this weekend. I helped another forum member rig up her Nasal Aire II, and I insisted that she hook up to her machine and actually test drive the mask and roll around some. She is also using a Respironics M Series, same as I do.

I was SHOCKED at how quiet this mask and machine are!!! From MY PERSPECTIVE, I can really hear the air whooshing in the tubes and in and out of the exhaust ports. From outside, this is a whisper quiet set up.

Your mileage may vary, but I was very impressed. I don't feel so bad now subjecting other people to it.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

GOOD POINT I think --- It seemed that I could hear whooshing & In and out of exhaust port noise -BUT- when I setup a tape recorder and when replayed my unit was a lot quieter than I thought -- The wife hasn't mentioned anything she is just glad I'm NOT SNORTING and other stuff!!

My husband always said my M Series -with A-Flex set - sounded like breathing. That was good to hear!!!
About a week ago I got the Whisper Cap. Now he says he can't hear at all! Maybe I should be worried! He is slightly hard of hearing.

I didn't believe it when the people I shared Hotel rooms with said they weren't bothered by my machine noise at all. But I do now!

Cheers,
B.

Two weeks ago I had to share a room with my mom and grandma and neither of them were bothered by it. Grandma said the noise was soothing, and mom didn't even notice it.

Of course, I wasn't sharing a bed with either of them, but it was still nice to know that I wasn't keeping them awake.
Have you always wanted to try the Liberty? Test drive it here!

I've had my M-Series Auto for just a week. It replaced an M-Series Plus CPAP. This one is MUCH noisier than the other even though I use the same mask. The whistle is very annoying coming from the back of the machine. Even my husband comments on it. He uses the M-Series Plus CPAP and it's quiet.

There is now a Whisper Cap available on cpap.com for the M Series. If you are bothered by a whistle, I'd invest in it. I don't have any whistling on my machine. Have you made sure your filters are seated properly?

I bought the cap, and it was about $14.00.

Good luck!

I can't believe you guys actually make such a stink over a little air noise moving around compared to the fact that this machine could possibly be saving your life! Put some music on. Buy earplugs. Whatever.

Sorry, you feel that way. The level of sound does have an impact on others sleeping around us. As a newlywed, recently diagnosed and starting CPAP .. I am in the other bedroom because of the sound of the machine. It is very encouraging to me to learn about something to make it quieter!

Auntie, don't worry about TheDean. He exists on this board to belittle people and stir the pot.

Yes, the filters are clean and seated properly. The whisper cap might do the trick. I've heard good and bad reviews on it, but it can't hurt. I have a strange feeling that the machine is a return judging by the dates on the stickers on the bottom.

Well, now you know why it was returned....

Which is why I buy from https://www.cpap.com.

I did notice that after a trip by air, my machine seemed a bit noisier. I can only surmise it got tired of being jostled and was complaining. I don't notice it now.

Good luck!

If you haven't had it long, I would check the "Blower Hours" in the clinician setup menu. This will tell you how long the machine has actually ever been used. All the other data can be reset, but blower hours can't. (Well the factory probably can, but a DME can't)

Thanks, Craig. I never thought of checking that. It appears to be a new machine. What a relief. Maybe it's as Babette said and the jostling from the delivery truck caused it. There is hope! My previous machine quieted down eventually and this one might, too. I'll give it a little more time and then look into the Whisper Cap.

What a precious little baby you have.

I have my M Series APAP on a low stand besides my bed and at times the noise level bothered me and hubby. I am a musician and 'in tune' with any environmental noise. My DME kindly gave me a whisper cap to try and it did reduce the noise level. I understand the cost at CPAP.com is about $14. Worth it if it reduces the noise and increases relaxation.

I have done a little travel over the past three years with my APAP, always carry it on with me. I have experienced some of what an above poster commented on. After a trip it has seemed to run different. In fact, after my last air flight it completely went out the next night (replaced under warranty).

Could using it at different location and different elevations around the country disturb the APAP's sensors?
