Quiet CPAP/Bi-PAP and Mask? and other questions

Post by rcarr121 » Mon Oct 06, 2008 9:45 am

Hello all,

My doc hasn't been the most helpful guy and I need some advice / guidance.

I've been using my Sleep Easy CPAP Machine with Built In Heated Humidifier & OptiLife Nasal Pillow Mask since July. I've had problems with the headgear slipping off of my head overnight, but my main issue is noise.

My wife has taken to sleeping on the other side of the bed because of the loudness-factor of the mask and machine. The near constant outflow of air from the mask is off-putting as well.

To that end, I'm coming to you for help. I need to change what I'm using but am at a loss with where to start. Obviously I need advice on quiet but comfortable equipment.

I'm almost positive that I want to change from a CPAP to a Bi-PAP to counter the occasional feeling of loss of pressure. Machine pressure is constant at 12. It's perception, but enough to wake me from a sound sleep. Am I correct in thinking that a Bi-PAP will help with this?

I've had issues with my mouth falling open from time to time, particularly when I'm a bit congested which has me taping my mouth shut. The reading I've done shows that a nose mask or full face mask is a better answer than nose pillows. Is that true?

With the gear slipping off at night, what is the best option that doesn't involve nightly adjustment?

I know that this is a ton of stuff all at once, but I'm at a bit of a loss.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Rich
